    Tried the Audi R8. Pics.

I tried the R8 today ( thanks to my brother)
Here are my impressions, mainly compared to my C4S.

The first obvious thing was the weight distribution. The R8 feels very balanced , 50 in the front, 50 in the back. The front is heavier then my C4S.

The car is very easy to drive, even fast. Very good grip , easy to put into the curve as the front is precise and leads the car. Very easy the go fast in bends, car stays neutral..until the front start to pull out a bit.
More understeer then on my C4S

I really disliked the DSG transmission. Maybe I do not know how to use it properly, but it feels half like automatic , half like a real gear shift. Sometimes it is rough, sometimes like an automatic. Not what I had expected at all. ( never tried before DSG )
Only the sound when downshifting is nice to listen to and it works very well, but then I felt frustrated that I was not the one give the little throttle when downshifting.
I prefer to do it myself then to have a computer do it for me !

I drove down hard on a very twisty small mountain. The brakes work very well, actually the first bite is stronger then on the C4S, but when I arrived at the bottom, there was lots of smoke coming from the brakes They were so hot!!! So I would not trust those brakes under heavy conditions.
My C4S does not do this when driving the same road.

Otherwise the car feel heavier then mine ( which it is) and has a more GT feel the the Porsche.
It would,(if no inside space is needed) easy be a daily driver, quite comfortable, extremely well built. More comfortable then my C4S - 20mm, but also less sporty !
The sound of the engine is like the RS4, just a bit louder.
    Not my taste !

All together it is an enhanced TT

    Here are my pics

Don't give up on DSG. The R8 has an adapted version of Lambo's e-Gear, no dual clutch.

8 In the back you can see the Mont Blanc mountain ( highest in Europe)

    Nice report, Gnil!

    So the brakes suck, huh?

Also, it doesn't have the DSG, it has the E-gear box under a different name.

Re: Tried the Audi R8. Pics.

thanks for the input. that was what i am expecting from the P owner drive expeirence of R8.

Re: Tried the Audi R8. Pics.

I'm pretty sure the R-Tronic in the R8 is not a Dual Clutch gearbox.

Re: Tried the Audi R8. Pics.

    10 . Last one

Re: Tried the Audi R8. Pics.

Great pics, Gnil- and thanks for sharing
The car still looks wrong IMO. Sorry to keep repeating myself - I really wanna like this car's looks cuz I generally like Audi and used to be quite an Audiphile.
But apart from the rims and rear it's so darn ugly it's hard to even look at.

Gnil, was it as sharp as a 911 going into corners? Did it handle like a regular Quattro or more sportscar-like?

Thanks for the correction. I did not even know that..then the e-gear is a to me

Re: Tried the Audi R8. Pics.

Thanks for the report Gnil. Did the R8 go through the mountain and turns as fast as you C4S?

It handles more sportscar -like then a regular quattro,as the car is more neutral and does not pull hard with the front, but it is not as sharp as the Porsche. It is easy, goes very well and quick into corners, but you don't get that same ' connected to the road' feel as on the Carrera.

I would say a beginner could be quicker in the R8 , as it felt very natural to drive. But generaly it feel less sporty then the Carrera - 20mm

My car feels faster then the R8 on the same stretch, even on straight acceleration, but ... that is only a 'feel' even if it 'feels pretty real'

I would have to time it to know exactly...

Re: Tried the Audi R8. Pics.

    Nice report, thanks .

Based on your view of R-Tronic. Just came back from the dealer and changed mine to 6-speed.

I'm still #2 and should get it in Sep. or Oct..

Thanks Gnil. Your C4S must be one heck of a car!

Same here, but these "real life" pics are some of the best I've seen, and the color combo works well in silver...

Thanks for the pics and report

Re: Tried the Audi R8. Pics.

very nice report and great pic's.

I was expecting much better performance from this car, but....

    Porsche rocks

Re: Tried the Audi R8. Pics.

Awesome, congrats are in order to your brother

Re: Tried the Audi R8. Pics.

    Very good test report Gnil!

Great pics as well and I think you summed the whole R8 thing perfectly.

Same here. Looks like a stretched TT...

I like the front and the rear, but the side view doens't work for me.

I think that's the last the Audi marketing department had in mind

Thanks for the report and the (like always) nice pics
Guess I prefer the shape of the alpine mountains on your pics over the R8-design

Just one question: in some reviews the testers complained about the steering providing not enough feedback. What was your impression
