    Re: Deadly accident GT3

I agree with silver bullet, everything is relative. Judgement is the key. Going fast, NOT CRAZY FAST, is not the danger. Where you do it is.

In this case, something was definately wrong. When you drive fast you concentrate 100% and grip the wheel tighter and heighten your senses. Not possible to hit anything w/o the possiblities already speculated on.

    Re: Deadly accident GT3

I'm thankful that this guy took no other lives because of his apparently poor judgment!
When you drive fast it is unfortunate if you are unable to handle the situation, but it is tragic if you take the lives of innocents!

    Re: Deadly accident GT3

Is this tragic incident going to be used as more ammunition to speed limit the autobahns once and for all?

    Re: Deadly accident GT3

Let's not rush to judge. The facts will present themselves soon. You can bet Porsche AG is equally interested in the facts.

    3) the guy burnt alive.

    Maybe he suicided?

I thought it was probably faster then what was originally claimed. If this guy was a fraud his lifestyle may have finally caught up with him. Again, I'll bet the guy was under the influence somehow and was going so fast he just didn't see the truck. A notorious scammer guy like this I doubt committed suicide. Living on the edge just caught up with him.

    MMD,
the witnesses did NOT BRAG . They REPORTED or STATED ...

and it's not ON THE MOVE but rather ..."was travelling in the right lane "

Your translation makes it appear as though the witnesses were rather gleeful at the incident .
    Which is not the case.

The rest is not too bad . Lol

I think MMD used a computer translation program. Remember that "angeben" can mean "state", "claim" or "boast", depending on context. A translation program does not understand context, and is liable to make the wrong choice.

That reminds me that Italians have a short proverb which translates to "Translators are traitors".

    Re: Deadly accident GT3

The Porsche driver had a quick death.

The Truck driver is alive and now has the accident story to top all other stories when he talks with his friends.

There is now one less Porsche with a hideous paint job on it.

2 out of 3 isnt bad for such circumstances.

    Re: Deadly accident GT3

Would somebody please explain the warning about not driving close to two trucks on the autobahn?

This E55 driver seems to have made the same mistake as the GT3 driver:

The problem is not to drive close, the problem is the difference in speed (let's say truck drives 100 km/h, Sportscar approaches with 250 km/h).
If you see a convoi of trucks (2 or more trucks) on the right lane in front of you (approaching fast from behind on the left lane) there is always the risk that one of the trucks pulls out to the left lane in order to overtake the other truck(s). Mind you the trucks don't have a rearview mirror in the cabin, so they have to rely on the side mirrors which is not the best thing (no "full angle" and it's more difficult to judge the speed of cars coming from behind if you only use the side mirrors - just try it in your car as a small "experiment"). Of course there are also lot of truck drivers just "sleeping" behind the wheel or those from other countries who are just not used to judge the high speeds on the Autobahn.
I'm used to drive fast on the Autobahn but I always slow down, if I see a convoi of trucks on the right lane on a two lane Autobahn. I only keep driving very fast on a three lane Autobahn, but only if there are no other cars on the middle lane at the side of the trucks (be aware of a fatal chain reaction if a truck pulls out to the middle lane).
    Hope this explanation helps

    Re: Deadly accident GT3

Someone statet the guy burnt alive. I think, thank god , that this can't be the case. If you look at the picture, you see that the passenger cabin above the fron trunk is compressed to the space behind the front seats. That means that the driver must have already been that by the time of impact. Luckily, he did not live long enough to burn alive.

Having said that, I feel for his friends and family and wish them strength.

P-J, on those portions of the autobahn with no speed limit, is a driver allowed to speed only during the day or also during the night?

    Day and night, no difference.

Yes, you can do whatever you want. The problem are the Eastern truckers, who are extremely arrogant and don't care that there are faster cars coming up on them. They also don't use turn signals, squandering you precious seconds you could use for braking. Romanians, Poles, Slovaks, Hungarians and Ukranians are all what I call risky truckers.

    Re: Deadly accident GT3

In the US, the trucks have a bar or something else to try to prevent a car from going underneath on the rear (the big problem here was decapitation). I wonder if that would have mattered at those speeds?
