    Gumball Rally and Germans

So there I was driving along this morning on the A60 headed towards Wittlich Kreuz in my Porsche doing a smooth 125 mph when i noticed off in the distance something had tail lights of a sports car vintage. After a few minutes and a few kilometers down the road i caught up, drove next to and passed an Aston Martin DB9 in flat black with the Gumball sponsor stickers all over it. I was like "holy hell" why so slow and why all alone on the autobahn at 06:30 hrs? Got to work did some research of the rallye progress to come and find out majority of the cars were held up by Polizei! hahah... Seems this Aston Martin found a way around the big road blocks and onward to Hahn Airport for airlift to Turkey! Just wanted to share.

And found some pics of the car:

    Re: Gumball Rally and Germans

i would love to c a 997tubo in flat black. it seem as if flat is the new "in thing".

    Re: Gumball Rally and Germans

I believe it's a wrap. At least the XJR220 is flat black wrapped.

    Re: Gumball Rally and Germans

That orange '57 Chevy at the front must be a nightmare on the A bahn.

    Re: Gumball Rally and Germans

probably a good wrap job, for protection form the road trip

    Re: Gumball Rally and Germans

There is a problem at Turkey for Gumball. I think there were some problem at Germany also. Also heard some officials didnt allow them to drive in Istanbul.

I also heard police kept some cars and licenses at Germany.

There supposed to be a show drive at Istanbul today (10min distance from my house) i was there but the program delayed or dunno whether cancelled.

    That was a real dissapointment...

    Re: Gumball Rally and Germans

I'm glad that the german police did their job. To drive a race on public roads is not very clever.

    It's not a race, it's a rally.

Yep, I agree. This is a very interesting colour. Maybe Porsche should offer it through Exclusive department...well...actually...I think they do.

    Re: Gumball Rally and Germans

When did start the Gumball this year? And where?.
    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Gumball Rally and Germans

So Gumball reverted back to being an 'all European' event again in 2007. I'm glad. I think it was a bit too expensive going to 3 continents like they did in 2006.

AFAIK it was GBP5000 per driver or passenger in 2005. In 2006, it cost (I think) GBP40000 per driver or passenger (due to the cost of air freighting the cars from continent to continent).

At around GBP5000, the normal enthusiast can still just about afford it. At GBP40000, it was for celebrities and tycoons only...

    Re: Gumball Rally and Germans

Finally, in this year rally, there is a Veyron and a Zonda..

    Re: Gumball Rally and Germans

Is it possible to track their current location ? In 3rd May they will drive through Zagreb -> Maribor -> Austria (Grazz) and I would like to go to look them when they will go through, but I dont have time for waiting them hours...

    Re: Gumball Rally and Germans

They are now at Athens.. I saw them.. They had their "White" party at Hilton in Athens (Without their cars).
Their cars are at the Athens Airport and they are going to take them back tomorrow morning, (10 o clock) when they will leave athens for their next location...

Well, my office is in downtown area, so if they will go in to the center of Zagreb-yes. If no, then our Poilice interceptors will do it for me...

Nobody want to spoil the party, but a rally doesn't mean reckless driving? Got it?

So you DO know the difference. Then may I also remind you that the organizers have often in the past issued stern warnings to anyone dricing recklessly and have even thrown out several people. It IS a rally, but some people might think that it's a race. Got it?

    Re: Gumball Rally and Germans

I appreciate the distinction between a rally and a race but FWIW insurance companies in the UK tend to exclude both from the cover they provide AFAIK.
