997S with tinted headlights and taillights

I wanted to tint my taillights and I saw the film on ebay, the guy also sold the headlight and foglight kit, so I bought that as well... I got it and decided that it was better left to a professional to install it. I had it sitting around for a while and then decided to call my window tint guy, he came by my office and said he'd call me when it's ready. Well, when he called and I went to the parking lot to look, it wasn't what I expected. He said it was too hard to go around the corners and curved parts, so he did it the best he could, which was to cut the taillight film and the headlight film down... And i'm not even sure if he used the film I gave him or just some window tint?

I was unsure whether I liked it or not so I removed the foglight film and headlight film today, I can always have a pro redo it if I decide I want to try again... I left the taillight film on because it actually looks pretty cool and different... What do you guys think? Should I have ljust left the front film on?

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

Love the car. Not sure about the tint. It is a unique look though.

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

Take it off . . . Take it all off!

The front is off, the taillights are still on (for now)...

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

Looks cheap and... is that even legal?

It doesn't appear it's illegal after a quick Google search. I seem to recall someone saying it is. I hate giving the cops any excuse to pull me over

What looks cheap, the front, rear or both?

    Legal, I don't know?

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

    the tail lights look good

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

To each their own, but I've never understood why people want to reduce the output of their lights. The last thing I'd want is for someone to rear-end me because they couldn't tell I was braking. I know there is the third brake light, but the more (and the brighter), the better IMHO.

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

I don't like it either. No offense.

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

The front looks weired, the back hot. I would keep the tail!

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

Before I got my Carrera, I had an 04 Toyota Celica GTS - still have it, actually. This is the sort of thing you can maybe get away with on that car (I never did, but....), but I'm just not sure its something I'd want to do with the Porsche. It starts to border on looking kind of ricey, and thats not good. I kind of relate to the feeling of wanting to play with it, make it stand out a bit more, etc., but really, the whole beauty of the Porsche is that you don't need to do a ton of mods - it starts out virtually perfect! Why screw with it?

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

P.S. Having said all that, I DID change to the clear sidemarkers as soon as possible!

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

The front does not look good . Keep it standard, your lights will aslo work better .

The back is ok.... but I am not sure I would keep it. Why not try the full red tail lights. On your black car it could look good.

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

It looks like something out of Asia now.

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

The problem is that all kids in cheap Japanese cars or even BMW 3 series do it. The Carrera cars are way above that

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

    Exactly

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

    IMHO that looks so cheap.....yuk!

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

Personally, I don't think either (front or back) enhance the look of the car, but that's just my opinion.

I agree, front and back need to be as bright as possible, when applicable.

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

Not that anyone will really care, but I removed both the front and the back and it's back to stock and looking good! I wasn't sure about it myself and I think that based on the replies, more people thought it was cheap looking rather then good looking, so it had to go... not too easy to get off I must say...LOL

The profesionally tinted front turn signal/side markers are staying though.... I like those, and although it doesn't look like any light goes thru them, they light up just fine at night.

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

I'm sorry, but if it's hokey on any of your lights, it's hokey on them all....

I remember when tinting or putting smoked covers on all your lights, on a black car especially, was in vogue... In
1986!! Every black IROC Z/28 on the road, with the T-tops out, with Loverboy blasting on the stereo LOL!!!!

Yes, I'm being harsh, and I apologize, but this is an intervention... The black-out thing is so bored-high-school-kid or tacky-old-harley-guy... Leave the "trying too hard to pimp my ride" stuff to the Hummer and Escalade owners.

Then again, it's your car, so to hell with what I think...

I do agree with you to a point, and yes, now that I look back, the way I had the headlights and the taillights tinted, was kinda hoky, although I'm not sure that if I had it professionally done like a couple people on this board have, I may think differently, because I have seen their cars and like them. I am going to try to post a picture of my car with and without the tinted side marker lights, although I don't have a picture of the car with the tinted side marker lights without the tinted headlights, which of course has been taken off now...

How about the Lambos with tinted taillights and side markers, I have seen alot of those like that....

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

Love the drop and wheels. What setup? Spacers?

Looks much better without the tinted covers - not that it should really matter what we think.

The only thing that's done to it is a set of H&R Springs. The Wheels are 20" Ruf wheels that are actually one piece. IMO they look pretty darn good... No problems (yet).

Re: 997S with tinted headlights and taillights

hey mark, the front turn signals look great, why not just paint the rears and leave the headlights alone?
go for a light to medium tint (ie the same way the sl55 or the gallardo SE tails are alittle darker than the stock versions)
