kingjr9000:noone1:And so the bullshit starts to fade :)
2.3s quicker with new compound Trofeos than a 570s on skinny old Corsas. Yeah, this car isn't doing 6:whatever on the NR in customer spec. But yet, the vette absolutely murders the 570s everywhere else
If my math checks out right, then this thing is naturally .56 secs quicker per km than the Vette. Which means that it should be atleast 11.5secs quicker around the nurburgring than the vette--not the manual that sport auto tested.
Vette was only 1.5s quicker than a 570S at Laguna Seca, again, super sticky tires on the Vette and old Corsas on the 570S. 918 was 3+ seconds quicker than the Vette.
The Performante is not going to live up to any of its claims, as we all expected.

This is why i love debating cars.
But you're forgetting the other tracks where its like 2-3secs ahead of it. Plus, according to a certain german track, the 675LT is only about 1.6secs faster.
Whats your counter, I wonder
Sep 6, 2017 2:28:15 PM
My counter is the same. The Performante's aero is bullshit as expected and it's performance is largely due to having a generation newer tires in the stickiest form possible. Those lap times for the Corvette were from 2015, before there even were new compound available.
Z06, 570S, and 675LT are running on old compounds of Cup2, Corsa, and Trofeos. The Huracan is running on the latest.
Lamborghini got on the laptime hype train with the SV and again with the P. Both cars will not live up to anything close to what they claim.

Nissan did it with one car and VW went viral with all the brands under their wing

Hasn't stopped the vette from being so close to the AMG GT R. But hey, we'll see after ore test come back. Sport Auto should have theres done by now if that recent instagram post with hearts for eyes is anything to go by

I think you guys need to understand where these 2 seconds faster have been achieved...not all tracks are the same.
The test result is very impressive, it is the fastest car they ever tested.

I wanted to write the same. They are very posivite and full of praise in their review.

Couldn't find a lap time overlay on GIS for the 570S. Well it's not quicker in a straight line than a 570S, so the time came from the corners. Where to tires have the most effect? Corners. Sure there are a lot of corners on the NR, but still don't think it will achieve near what they claim.
We'll see how it performs in more tests soon I imagine. I still don't expect much.
We can agree on something. McLaren goes too skinny on tires. 570S would have just been too good of a car otherwise. I know a lot of 650S owners think their are worlds of difference between P11 and P13, but I really don't think there is.

Skinny tires make a car much nicer to drive on the road where 570S is meant to shine (as long as not overly staggered with much wider rears than ) - better steering feel, better in the wet, less following grooves in the road, and more playful and predictable at the limit. Wide tires are only good on track...

Many people also seem to forget that the Performante is not a monster engine car (n/a V10, not a V8 Biturbo with massive torque), neither is it very lightweight. I am pretty much impressed but I like the car anyway, so...

Isn't it kind of funny that we consider a 640 hp V10 not to be a monster engine nowadays?
What did the Carrera GT have again? 612 hp-V10 and that was only ten years ago...

True and the Carrera GT still rocks every time I see/meet it.

10 years ago, with 600hp, you had more engine than chassis. Since then, chassis performance and the tire technology underlying it has come very far along. So even today, I do not think you can say the overall sensation you get as a driver is completely the same as some of those older cars.
For road drivers, I do not think those skinny McLaren tires are a bad thing at all. Well, other than perhaps spinning tires in 3rd gear in the dry seems a bit hair raising.

Okay...apparently, it seems that Misha Charoudin--yeah, the "performante-lap-time-is-fake" guy, let it slip that an independent tester was able to set a 7:12 with the performante. Anyone know anything about this? And need i remind you that if this was SA, they were only able to set a 7:15 with the 918, despite having a production car, not a prototype.

The Performante is very fast on the track, I have this from people working as car journalists and who have seen real world times. How fast? We will know soon enough from various real life tests.
