    Standard 4 speakers vs Sound package Plus ?

    Not the Bose, but the Sound package Plus with 9 speakers and ext-amp + CD changer.

    Are there much different in sound between the standard 4 speakers package and the Plus package?

    Everyone uses Ipod, mp3, so I am not sure about the CD changer, but the 9 speakers and amp worth it or not?

    Don't get the CD changer if you plan to get the Dension iPod interface unit. I have it and it works well. I do suggest getting the Sound package. Anything would be better than the base sound package.

    The only consideration for not getting the Bose is for keeping the extra space that is used up on the back shelf by the speaker box. Supposedly even the BOSE isn't that great (good enough for me); but it's good to get anyway for upgrading because all speaker ports and trim are there.

    CD changer already has space in trunk allocated for it. However I've never used the CD changer that're in my cars; didn't get one in 997S.

    Oh....my mistake

    the sound plus package comes with CD shelf and not changer. That's good because i dont need that!

    by the way, what's CD shelf?

    Thats right, all speaker ports and trim ready are so important.

    Changer goes behind one of these panels (if I remember correctly).

    Changer is strictly a us$600 or 700 (?) option.

    The cd shelf are the two cd "holders" in the glove box. Nice, but not very important. I would at least get the sound plus option... base system sucks.

    Actually, that's not correct, MMD.

    On US and European cars, the CD changer is located as shown in the picture on the lower left bottom corner.


    As you can see..the DVD nav drive is right next to the CD changer and the amp is to its right under the vented opening.

    The strange thing is that when I test drove the Turbos last year in Austria/Germany the DVD nav was here


    Same location but on mine


    Instead the DVD nav drive is here on US car (mine)


    European (prototype?) car trunk


    Not sure if it's possibly because I drove a prototype. I drove the car before the Turbos were released worldwide so its possible.

    Atomic, the prototype car trunk looks like nothing I've ever seen before. And in my car the DVD nav is located beneath one of the panels in the middle of the trunk. Could it have something to if you have a 997 with AWD or not?

    That's what I'm not sure about...The "prototype" car I drove was a Turbo which does have AWD.

    Where are you? In the USA the Sound Package Plus is standard on all Carreras. Here is a list of standard interior items from the PCNA site for a base Carrera.

    -spoke steering wheel in leather with full-color Porsche crest
    On-board computer with continuous indication of mileage, time and speed
    Driver and passenger seats with power backrest, manual height adjustment and integrated airbags

    I going to spec a GT3.

    Do you know where are the standard 4 speakers located?

    I know 2 are in each of the door panels, what about the other 2?

    Sorry I didn't notice that you were inquiring about a GT3. I had never seen a 997 Carrera with the four speaker system.

    The location of the four speakers are two in the lower part of door panel down by your feet (towards the front of the door) and the other two are in the panels that would be beside the rear seats (if you had rear seats).

    I have never heard the four speaker system, but I was told that it is not very good. It was highly recommended to me to order the Sound Package Plus if you getting a GT3.

    Do you know how much weight around 5 more speakers and extra amp?

    Going back to the original question, the bottom line is that the standard stereo is absolutely 100% CRAP, you would be totally MAD NOT to specify an upgrade if you like listening to music.
    I have a 997GT3 & couldn't specify Bose, so I had the soundpack+, it's just good enough to enjoy your music. Don't save few dollars & then regret it every time you turn the stereo on, get the best you can specify, also be careful with after-market upgrades I have seen plenty of battery drain, alarm & reliability issues caused by so called stereo "experts"!!!

    I have never seen a GT3 with the four speaker system, but I was given the information on the location of the four speakers by a salesman at my local dealership. He is also the person who said the standard system is horrible. So, sorry I do not have first hand knowledge, but I have no reason to doubt the salesman.

    You re right, actually i am worring about the extra weight, but if that's rubbish than just remove it or upgrade it. Otherwise it is useless...

    Adding 5 speakers and 1 amp in the RS wouldn't add too much weight i guess?

    Don't worry about a few pounds on an upgraded stereo it will make zip difference to grunt, grip or handling!
    Just look at the variance in driver weights, if you are worried about a few pounds go on a diet!

    I don't like CD changers, unless the sucker is right there in the dash like the 6-CD in-dash changer in my Ford truck is. If you can't get at it easily from the helm, it's more aggrevation than asset.

    We've debated sound systems ad nauseum before. Bottom line, if the Bose system stinks, then the standard system is stinky-er... Who wants stinky-er?? Hardly an option that you cheapskate on, as if going with the base system is some sort of admirable symbolic protest..

    This is not the same debate. He is seeking info on a standard four speaker system that only comes in the GT3. The only OPTION available is the 9 speaker Sound Package Plus system that is standard in all other 997's. The Bose system is not available in the GT3.

    His answer won't help you in your quest to determine the location in a GT3. His car is a Boxster with no rear seats, therefore no rear seat speakers. Call your salesman and ask him where the four speakers are located. My salesman told me that they are located in the doors and rear panels by the rear seat location.

    I would get the best OEM sound system available on the GT3 if I were you: BOSE. If not available then Sound Package Plus etc. Surely there must be some occasions when you aren't listening to the engine but feel instead like listening to some music?
