BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe vs Audi TT 2.0TFSI

Ok guys here is two cars. My best friend is looking to buy a new car soon. He was really confused which car to buy.

Most important things are, performance , handling , comfort and 2nd hand value i mean resale.

He was checking a 2006 3000km Z4 3.0 Si Coupe. It is second hand but very low mileage and clean for sale from BMW delaer

Next option is brand new Audi 2.0TT s t-ronic.

For the comparison i know 3.0SI is faster but if he buys Audi TT he will do a chip tuning ECU what ever as 2.0TFSI engines get a gain at least 200hp-280nm(stock) to 240hp-330nm.(modded with ECU only)

Here there is no quatrro option for 2.0 AUDI TT (dunno if any q option in germany for 2.0T). What he concerns is FWD 240hp must be a little bit diffrent. For BMW 265hp RWD is OK of course
    Any suggestions are welcomed.

Re: BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe vs Audi TT 2.0TFSI

Honestly, new TT is excellent car. I like 2.0TFSI with 200hp even more then 3.2 version. It is the best current FWD car on the market IMHO.
S-Tronic is also very good and it mimic both automatic and manual pretty nicelly...

BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe is also very good car, but ultimately not the one for me...

BUT... I would take VW Golf GTI Edition 30(230hp) with DSG over both of them! I drove one few days ago and it is IMHO really amazing car, specially for the money. It is as fast as Z4 3.0Si and much cheaper then TT.

Re: BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe vs Audi TT 2.0TFSI

I like both cars. Z4 Coupé is a rather good looking car, though I have to admit that I like the more controversal look of the Z3 Coupé even better. New TT is a stunning looking car. I think it looks better than the old TT, perhaps more mainstream but the design is perfect.
So concerning looks I would prefer the Audi TT, also the interior is of better quality and Z4 cabin is rather cramped inside.

Flat six of BMW is surely one of the best engines currently available, so advantage for the Z4. The 2.0 Turbo of the TT I know only from the Golf GTI. This car was also equipped with DSG, so it should be comparable. Surprisingly I found no problems with 200hp in a front-wheel-drive car. It may be different, if you tune it to 240hp though. So both engines are good, but in direct comparison I would prefer the BMW six cylinder.

So perfect would be the TT with the flat six of the Z4.

Re: BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe vs Audi TT 2.0TFSI

Honestly his mind was at TT 3.2 Quattro but it cost about 95.000 Euro which both of us say it doesnt worth to pay 30.000 euro more than 2.0TFSI. I mean for similar performance when tune up to 240hp vs 255hp however Quattro is the difference.

So how would be the traction and handling on the curves with FWD 240hp car. Wet dry ??

Btw thanks for the inputs guys, my vote goes for TT also due to it is new and can be easily modded. With exhaust +ECU + 50hp. Also it is 10k cheaper than used BMW. However 265hp BMW 6cyl engine is reallly impressive

Regarding 200hp --> 240hp difference it is really difference. He knows it because I did it to my A4 2.0T. It really is really a significant difference i drive it for 81k km without any serious problems. And it has less consumption than stock one. It would be much better difference at TT because it is at least 150kg less weight than A4.

For example 0-100kmh of TT 2.0T S-tronic has 6.4sec and it should be around 5.8-5.9 when it is 240hp with a top end 250+kmh

Re: BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe vs Audi TT 2.0TFSI

My VW GTI has the 2.0T engine- its very nice. Alot of torque, very flexible, nice sounds. Also, the DSG is soooo fun. I have heard that some people actually prefer the 2.0 in the TT as opposed to the 3.2.

Re: BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe vs Audi TT 2.0TFSI

    This may help?

Re: BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe vs Audi TT 2.0TFSI

Z4 will be a better handler no doubt IMO...

    Damn, got it wrong again.

Normally I should know, as I got this engine in my beloved Z3 Coupé, but English is sometimes really confusing...

I agree In German language nobody would mistake a Reihen-Sechszylinder for a Boxermotor

Right. Reihen sounds rather different to Boxer.

Another explanation would be that I just hang around the Porsche boards a little bit too much...

Re: BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe vs Audi TT 2.0TFSI

    Here is the update!!

He is going to get a 2007 Ford Mustang GT.

Maybe not best handling car , but it has a huge price / performance advantage for a 300hp sport car. Also it sounds nasty.

Re: BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe vs Audi TT 2.0TFSI

    What a choice...

Well, it is his decision and he needs to live with it.

Re: BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe vs Audi TT 2.0TFSI

Kreso , it sounds a bit weird really no problem with it.

Z4 interior is really like coffin. I can only stand 30seconds when i get in it. I was feeling like somebody is garrote me

TT has much better interior than Z4 , but as i said FWD was the disadvantage. We have tried Ford Mustang GT , not the best handler , but the interior is good, (some parts are plastic) but the car feel very free and the leather of the seats were really comfortable, i like the exhaust note and the acceleration from stand is really good. The auto shift is not too sportive but ok for the lower gears.

He is going to drive it only for a year and half , next step is Cayman S or 996/997 used Carrera and i think Ford Mustang GT would be a good step for this.

    He owned C180 kompressor and A6 3.0TDI Q last 2 years.

Re: BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe vs Audi TT 2.0TFSI

mustang gt??? i would take a tt over it anytime.. caghan if he is just looking for power, why didnt he take an evo9?

Re: BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe vs Audi TT 2.0TFSI

He mentioned that but EVO is a hardcore car and manual tranny.

Not too comfortable in Istanbul huge traffic, and it has a little bit ricer reputation here. (No offense , it is really good car imo for performance issue). Also their resale value drops like a stock exchange in crisis.

Btw i am really impressed that Ford Mustang GT seats are as comfortable as a Mercedes S -class. Very soft leather...

Re: BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe vs Audi TT 2.0TFSI

evo has a ricer reputation anywhere i think..
