It uses an electroluminated fluorescent light that lights up underneath. I know for a fact that it continues to work even when there's water inside. I couldn't tell you if its reliable but I've seen other cars with the same thing after years of usage and it continues to function. It looks REALLY cool when opening the car up at night.

Since you asked: I love the carbon but think the illumination would be silly UNLESS you operated in a car culture or nightclub scene where the bling factor is highly prized.
For me getting my car valeted to the places I go, people would see the illumination and think I was nuts. Like nice quality BUT rhinestone-studded stuff: it's all-of-a-sudden over the top because of the rhinestones.

Yeah, you're right, no problem: get what you want.
It's like what I learned in Anthropology back in college. "Every gesture is a message," Claude Levi Strauss I think. Anyway how you dress, the choices you make, the things you do, all send out more or less specific messages to other members of the subculture you're in.
Where I'm "from" it's enough to own the Porsche ("Yes, we see you drive a Porsche, those are nice cars, yawn...") and over the top to make it known it's a Porsche (Geez, what compells you to have to _advertise_ it's a Porsche?).
Not a big sin to have illuminated door sills, just a red herring. Who needs that? However, eventually all your red herrings add up and you become something of a character; not what I want.
Just funny how people in diferent social cliques react... .

I would for sure get the illuminated one, because those are damn cool and you are doing this for yourself and not for anyone else. That has nothing to do with posing, this is enjoying your car and have fun with the small things in life!

I had a refrigerator in college which I paid $25 for (worth every cent). I noticed that the light stayed on even when the door was closed; this gives you an idea how tight the door seal was. Since the door frame was also cracked where the light switch would have been pressed in, I simply unscrewed the light bulb. All the food in the fridge froze that night; it turns out the thermostat was also busted and the light switch had been deliberately disabled by some creative thinker to stabilize the temp.

Cabron parts are hand-made. What happens: they have a mould, on which they stack pieces of dry CF-fabric. For structural parts, this has to be done very precisely. For aesthetic parts like doorsills, this is a minor issue. Then they impregnate it with resin and seal it off, putting it under vacuuum. Then it goes into the autoclave to stay there a certain time at high temperature and pressure. When it gets out, the parts have to be trimmed etc. It is a highly manual work, whilst with metal, I think they just put a sheet metal under a press, which cuts and folds it into shape. Polishing and it is ready.

This includes giving them a nice shot of clearcoat (or something extremely shine-y like that). Looooots of work.
It's funny because with the stamped SS they don't even bother to de-burr the edges (the ones I ordered came with sharp nasty edges).
