    CTR III

Ctr III , sorry if re p!

    Re: CTR III

    WOW!

    Re: CTR III

    Whoa! Sweet!!
Just checked their website, and as far as I can see they have NO 997 or 987 model conversions available yet...only a pic of a 997 model.
Am I looking the wrong place or are they not ready yet?

    "RUF announces 360KMH Porsche Cayman-based CTR3

Exactly 20 years after we saw the original CTR, German tuning house RUF has announced the introduction of its third generation CTR3 coinciding with the launch of its new plant in Bahrain. The latest version will be based on the Porsche Cayman and like the original, the CTR3 will be one of the fastest Porsches on offer when it's released.

Starting with the Porsche Cayman body, RUF has utilized racing technologies first seen on its 911-based RT12 offering. Powering the CTR3 is a twin-turbo 3.8L flat six engine pumping out 700hp at 7,000rpm with torque topping out at 890Nm. To save weight its developers added several unique body panels made from lightweight aluminum and carbon-fiber as well as a new lattice tubing spaceframe. Drive is sent to the wheels via a rumoured seven-speed sequential automatic gearbox that's said to allow the CTR3 to reach a top speed of 360km/h.

When the original CTR was released in 1987, it out-performed many of the supercars of its era including cars like the Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Countach and even Porsche's own 959. The CTR3 is set to do the same but won't come cheap as pricing is expected to fall around the Euro 300,000 mark."

So Dr.Phil are you going to visit Sturup for the first race of Carrera Cup Scandinavia?

    Re: CTR III

This is the new car they are building in Bahrain. While technically still a Porsche platform, it is a really very arms length relationship. It's no longer just a modified porsche, but reall a RUF as a manufacturer fully (I know they are technacally a manufacturer now, but this is much more)

Am I the only one who thinks this is a Cayman with a 997GT3 front, 997TT side, Carrera GT rear and GT1 roof?
Sorry, but this thing is even uglier than a disguised Panamera .

    Re: CTR III

Wow, that looks absolutely stunning. I'm not usually a fan of RUF, but that is unreal.

C'mon this is what Porsche should look like to begin with. I think this design is outstanding.

To me it looks like they got different parts from different models and stuck them together on a cayman. at first glance I was impressed too but only for a second, then I realized what they did. Sorry, I expected the CTR3 to be in line with the previous CTR designs (911 based), or at least CGT based, not cayman based!
But again the looks are always a subjective matter, lets wait for some performance figures and I am sure those will shine.

    Re: CTR III

I love it.. Ruf is clearly in a league of his own.

    Re: CTR III

Looks like a overtuned Cayman - eventhough RUF engines are probably amongst the best money can buy - but I would rather base a CTR on a 911 and then in yellow...

    Re: CTR III

The most amazing tuned/rebodied porsche I've EVER seen

    Re: CTR III

    Thats insane, I love it!

Dito Can't take my eyes of it - fantastic car

    Re: CTR III

I also love it!! Usually against everything that is aftermarket and modified, but this is one cool car... A little touch of Koenigsegg by the roofline. Looking forward to see a review of this in AMS or similar... and some videos....

    Re: CTR III

I love it. This example is a rolling f*** y*** to the entire Porsche marketing department.

I agree with the points above. Porsche design bites, this is a wake-up call. Maybe Ruf should be hired to rework the panamera before it gets released.

I saw a whole bunch of range rovers, touaregs, and cayennes yesterday AND the Cayenne looks the cheapest by far. Porsche needs to get its act in gear!

    Re: CTR III

I take it this is a lengthened 987 chassis? Like everyone here (bar one), I think this car is stunning. Can't take my eyes off it! The only thing I don't like are the wheels. It needs a dished rims I think.

What I understood from the articles is that they use the 997 chassis for the car-front, whereas the rest is based on the 987 chassis. So it seems Ruf has opted for a mid-engined car as a successor for the Yellowbird Will be interesting to see how it's performance compares to the mighty CGT
BTW nice poll on the AMS website...what would you do to drive this car ? Leave the wifey, sell the children...

Hang on, isn't the front oart of the 987 and 997 the same???

    Re: CTR III

Looks awesome, like a big, mean and scary supercar.

On second thought, it looks a bit like the Audi TT from the side . Still, the performance specs are going to be mind-boggling.

    Re: CTR III

The only thing that disturbs my eye is the Noble-style back and rear spoiler. Would look even nicer with a GT3-style wing.

    Re: CTR III

I like the design... but I also think Porsche did a great job with the Cayman. This car is NOT the daily-driver that the cayman is... this is closer to a Pagoni Zonda. This is exactly why aftermarket tuners do well... the create out-of-the-box designs for those who'll pay for it.
But Porsche focuses on a design that you can drive to work, the store, on a trip, to the beach... etc, and not have the papparazzi tryin to take your picture getting out of your car at the supermarket.
