    Re: Cayman GT4

    vantagesc:

^ Interesting that the "AMSHIFT" system, equivalent to Sport on the GT4 that does auto-blipping on downshifting, also does no lift shifts in the Aston system.  That must feel incredibly weird.

The drive-by-wire throttle must kill the gas momentarily on upshifts to smooth the shift when you leave your foot to the floor.  Not sure if I love that, but it's probably something that can be disable if desired (along with blipping on downshifts) on a menu.  I guess on track, it's probably fastest to let the computer do the throttle lifting for you.  Some will obviously ask why not just get the paddle shifter if you use that crap, but I'd still get manual and decide how to use those features (or not).

    Re: Cayman GT4

When I first used sport, I still instinctively blipped on downshifts, but got used to it.   I think no lift upshift in this AMSHIFT went a step too far.

Now you just need a road legal GT4 too, then you can sell all those other wheels in your garage. You won't use them anymore anyway SmileySmiley

1459942227941image.png image.png This just came up for sale in my local market. It's only the third GT4 I've seen for sale since release. What is wrong with some people!!! My eyes!

I usually don't comment on cars looks, I think it is a too personal subject.

    But:

This is butt-ugly, it is a shame to do that to a car. You can even see that the car it self is feeling ashamed.

Fabspeed in the U.S. say they are working on the gearing issue and are maybe a month away (from posting more details or announcing an actual product, I don't know).  Might try giving them a call too.

    Re: Cayman GT4

Thanks Grant; interesting that the write-up for the new Lotus Exige 350 is quite positive - assuming you can live with the usual Lotus deficiencies, it sounds like a great fun car as long as you have other DD car(s).  IMO more of a competitor to the Alfa 4C than the GT4.  So for those who missed the GT4 and may not be high enough on PAG's excellence list to even get a successor GT4, I imagine anyone can buy the Lotus.

Oops, I was getting my Exige and Evora mixed up.... in fact it was the new Evora 400 I had been reading about, that is being brought to NA.  Still raw compared to most PAG products, supercharged source of power so lag-free, and therefore may be worth considering for alternatives to Cayman or 4C.  And I think still available in manual... Smiley

    Re: Cayman GT4

The Evora is pretty nice. I sat in one and it was so much easier to get in and out of. But that car is actually deceptively big. At the autoshow it was parked next to a 488 and they are almost the same size, at least length wise.

But after looking at it, The Exige LF1 seems more tempting. We have a brand-new one local for sale, the price is very attractive too and had I not been approved for the GT4CS, the LF1 was my backup plan.

    Re: Cayman GT4

Whoopsy, if going the Lotus route for a track car, LF1 isn't the right model. You'll want a Cup model and you probably want the Version with the sequential racing box.  Of course if the price was right on the LF1, you could convert it.  No replacement for a lightweight car if you haven't tried one yet. Maybe a 3-11 or Radical in your future when you are ready to climb the speed ladder. Maintenance is

Nick, I am getting confused with all your cars. Which car or cars will you use for the track? If I recall your track is almost five hours away from your home. Are you going to trailer these cars?Smiley

Gonna park the GT4CS at the track now that I have an allocation. The LF1 was my alternate #1 to be parked the track if I cannot get a GT4CS.

Yes, track is 4-5hrs away, I will drive up in whatever, and take those on the track too when i arrives. But my primary track usage car will be the GT4CS. It will be my learning car for serious performance driving.

On a track, nothing beats a dedicated race car, even the 918. There is so much to learn.

That's definitely the way to go, especially from a safety perspective.  Full cage, halo containment seat, and HANS. Whoopsy livery adds 10hp.

Given the distance Nick, I think you should get a helicopter! Or a Volvo motor home so you can camp there for a week each time. 😂

That is probably the absolute truth, unfortunately there are track events that requires you to have a street legal car.

    Re: Cayman GT4

I was actually admiring Whoopsy's words "so much to learn..." because good drivers always learn and learn and learn, while average drivers always think they are great and there isn't much to learn, one reason why many of these drivers do not attend driver ed events training. We had such a guy a couple of years ago, a real show off and our instructor told me that he had to really restrain himself for teaching this guy a lesson he wouldn't forget.

I wish I had the time to be more often on the track and to attend some special events I got invited to. Many (mostly) amazing people, I really miss this time. yes

Right, and not everyone has the resources and space for a tow vehicle and trailer.
