Thanks kreso for the first hand info.

    $118k for R-Tronic

    Makes you think twice .

Ron: Skip R-tronic. full leather and anything with carbon in it. You don't need all that "crap"

Get the a manual with convenience package, small leather, navigation, Bang Olufsen, non-carbon sideblade and metallic paint.
All this can be yours for only 119.950

    Just do it

As kreso said in the U.S. R-tronic would have a better resale value than manual, sad but rtue.

I'll go with R-tronic and PL3 (Enhanced leather package) no carbon though. This way may be I can sell it to someone rich that wants to give his mistress a present .

Re: For Ron... US R8 prices

    9k for DSG ??
    lambo's e-gear and ferrair's f-1 are 10k

    No DSG. R-Tronic is Lambo's E-gear.

I am not telling you which car to buy but keep in mind that as soon as your drive the 997TT off the showroom floor, it loses about $10,000. As time passes, it will continue to lose more.

However, the R8 more than likely will hold its value and maybe even appreciate because of the limited availability. Also it is a very special and unique looking car whereas the 997TT looks like every Porsche ever made.

Re: For Ron... US R8 prices

    Nick,

I think I will take the R8 though.

Re: For Ron... US R8 prices

    Ron,

Just think really hard about R-Tronic... It is not as good as F430 F1 not to talk about 599 GTBs F1 Superfast...
Simply said IMHO R8 is far better car as manual(and cheaper). About resale value-also think hard about it if you get "lemon like" R-Tronic gearbox... Lambo's e-gear in Gallardo received four(maybe even more) software updates since revised version is introduced in 2006...

Of course if you are just enthusiastic about paddle shifter then go for R-Tronic. But, IMHO it is flawed system... It will work properly only in Sport mode in full attack driving on the race track.
Do you really need odd spectacularly flamboyant throttle blip on every downshift in downtown driving?

If so, then as just go for it!

Re: For Ron... US R8 prices

Also I couldn't find much enthusiasm about the R-Tronic in the reviews published so far
As for resale value: I guess it's hard to predict what happens before the first customers made their own judgement about the R-Tronic.

Re: For Ron... US R8 prices

Does anyone know how much the carbon fiber engine bay trim and engine bay LED lighting will run? The standard plastic engine bay trim I've seen in pics looks a little cheap. I know it is only for aesthetics, but the engine is on show under glass so it would be nice to have it looking its best (especially at this price point).

Couldn't agree more. I buy it because it is a very special/unique car as compared to the 997TT. It provides about 92 to 95% of the TT's performance with 150% of appearance/exclusivity.

    Hi Tony,

    I don't quite agree.

With each passing year there a little updates from these "mass" manufacturers. Look what happened with the SL range from MB. The 2005 SL's had a slightly updated interior and center entertainment unit. The 2004 had the older units. This affected the value of the car.

I expect the same to happen with the R8 - with small slight updates yearly. Also don't forget the V10 version will probably materialize and that too will affect the holding value of the R8.

I wouldn't be suprised if they brought out a roadster version in a next couple years

Re: For Ron... US R8 prices

I agree Mike, the prices of the V8 version will drop as soon as the V10 is released. The same people that have to have the latest and greatest will be looking to trade up and it should be a buyer's market on the V8 version
