Bose

now got my 997TT

But a qustion the bose sounds no where near as good as my 996 is there a rear Sub in the 997 TT ? i am getting no bass from the rear of the car and its sound quality is no where near as rich and clear as the 996 Bose

Something is wrong either with some adjustment or the unit itself. The subwoofer is located behind the rear seats (folding them down will reveal 2 outlets). The Bose system is not a top notch car audio system but it is and should sound decent with sufficient bass. I record my drums to music using Pro Tools and while not an audiophile, I am a musician (hobby) and know a bit about quality sound. The Bose is decent, nothing more, and it should be MUCH better than the stock 996 unit so I would take it in and have it checked. The menues/buttons in the PCM take some getting use to and sometimes you need to dig deeper to find what you need. Once you get the hang of it (especially the Nav) it will become more user friendly.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't think the BOSE in the 997 sounds that much better than the standard HiFi of the 997. May be a case of which buttons you have to press though, but at least for now, I couldn't find the right ones in the BOSE that make it that better.

Ys i agree with the above but this car's sound quality is krap compared to both of my 996's with Bose
i have had Bose on 3 Porka's and all with PCM so control options are not the issue i do not think ( he hopes ) the car has now gone back to OPC to be checked and have a couple of other niggles sorted

There must be something wrong, the bass on my Bose is so strong, I usually keep it on 1-2, with the treble up to 5-6.

Reminds me of what I have heard in the past about BOSE: "no highs, no lows...must be BOSE" or "BOSE = Buy Other Sound Equipment". That said though who really listens to their stereo in a Porsche

Their Acoustimass and Lifestyle series suck. My friend got the Acoustimass 10 with a Sony 6x100W receiver a few years ago and was then flabbergasted when my computer-bound Logitech Z-680 played the sound both clearer as well as louder, with more high and low tones. The difference was that he paid 4 times as much for the rig as I did

At least you "did the right thing" by getting BOSE. The only reason to get it, as far as most audiophiles are concerned, is you get the speaker cavities, grilles, and wiring for your own aftermarket upgrade.

thought it was probably my tin ear and total lack of intrest in any sound system in the tt but....the bose system sucks.. id have to say its the worst system in any car ive purchased in recent years...glad im not alone with these observations

That's not all. Bose got a billion-dollar contract about a decade ago with the USAF to design a noise-cancellation headset for their flight crews. Of course, the contracz was never fulfilled. Seems that even the Air Force buys the hype

My experience is completely the opposite, the system in my TT is a hundred times better than the one I had in the Cayenne S and lot better than the top of the line premium system that came with my Audi Q7. There is no distorsion until very high volume levels and the base is significantly stronger and better in the TT and I do know a little about music and systems. What other cars did you say had better stock systems?

Some people are just as fanatical and opinionated about their expensive stereos as they are about their expensive cars! Just use them and enjoy them. Ain't life grand

The Bose in the 997 is much better than the stereo in the 996. The HK logic 7 in my E55 was better though, although I would attribute much of the difference in sound insulation in the E class as better than the 997.

I went to MIT and took a class from Dr Amar Bose. Smart guy, but his company is all about profit and marketing. My roommate worked in the Framingham plant and we all were able to buy their speakers for cost ~30% of retail. Fine for a college budget. Since college I have chosen to avoid Bose products for better ones.

Bose was a leader when they introduced the 901 speakers. I remember how good they sounded and how small they were. Today they are not in the upper class IMO. Being an enginner I have an appreciation of design, and this is why I have driven Porsche's for 20+ years, Bose hasn't followed Porsche's excellence in design IMO. Good but not top notch like they used to be.

That is true. Many years ago BOSE was very good and had some phenomenal speaker lines. When they started going cheap they got some bad reviews. They asked that those reviews not be published and threatened to pull their advertising from several stereo magazines. The stereo magazines called BOSE's bluff and published the bad reviews, BOSE pulled their magazine ads, and it has been downhill ever since. To give them credit though they do once in a while come up with a half decent product, but nothing like what they used to be.
