997 C4S Short Shift Retro fit

    Guys,

The only option I did not get on my new 997C4S cab was the shortshift kit, which I now really want!!.

I see that it is now available to buy from some of the aftermarket Porsche independant dealers.

However I have asked the Porsche Dealer that supplied my car, and they say it can not be retro fitted, as it means a gearbox change.

I am not sure this is correct, as I belive the kit only invloves the replacement of the base of the shifter, and a lever with a different fulcrum swivel point.

Has any one here had one retro fitted by a Porsche dealer, and how much did it cost inc labour on a new 997?

    Thanks again in advance.

    Nige.

Re: 997 C4S Short Shift Retro fit

I always though it is retrofittable without any problem, even the price is alright?

Re: 997 C4S Short Shift Retro fit

Just looked it up at the German homepage, Short Shifter is 340 Euro excluding VAT.

Re: 997 C4S Short Shift Retro fit

Hi Rossi, thanks for the response,

Do you know the price even in euros?

THe local independent is listing them here:

    http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/acatalog/porsche_997_transmission_gearbox.html

With VAT its works out to be Pounds290, not inc fitting, thats not too bad in my opinion.

However I would like it to be supplied and fitted by the supplying dealer, to avoid issues.

Does anyone know the OEM Part Number for this retro kit?

    Thanks again,

    Nige.

Download and take a look at the attachment. One way or another think it's exactly what you're looking for.

Hope it really worths for you!

    Dealer pulling your plonker

It pisses me off when a dealer says this, as they should know better. Fire the f*cker! The short shift kit is an official Porsche accessory and copies can be bought just about anywhere. Try Carnewall.com as an alternative.

Re: 997 C4S Short Shift Retro fit

The short shifter is available for retrofit as a Tequipment 997 item:

Re: 997 C4S Short Shift Retro fit

In case he wouldn't go for the Tequipment stuff, just some DIY option

Re: 997 C4S Short Shift Retro fit

Hi, I had it done on my 997C2S and as you said, it consists of a different pivot point assembly at the gear lever and has nothing to do with the gearbox. You can either get the official Porsche kit which cost me $550 mounted by dealer or get a cheaper aftermarket which includes only the different parts that are then swapped as opposed to the assembly at the gear lever point which is simply replaced in the case of the official kit. Difference in price was onlt $200 so i went with the official kit. Quite happy with it...

    @LeChef

Are you sure it really exists the Carnewall url. Could you pls repost it?

If you follow those installation instructions you will brake the base where the leather boot attaches. It is not like the pic shows.

    Re: Carnewal

You can buy the entire replacement sport shifter unit direct from Porsche, or you can buy just the shifter from B&M for about 1/2 the cost, but that will require a bit more work.

Either way ,go to the B&M web site and get the complete install instructions , including how to remove the console.
( you get no instructions from Porsche )
I bought the completely assembled Porsche unit and the total installation took me less than one hr.
and you can disregard more than 1/2 of the B&M install instructions.

I had fun installing mine and love it.It's a totally different driving experience . I highly recommend it .

    Re: Carnewal

    Nige,

Have you tried the SS? It's not for everyone- my dealer didn't want to drive my car, hated it. I think it's an excellent option.

    Re: Carnewal

    Hi,

Thanks for the response, yes I did try another car with the SS, and have to say I really enjoyed it.

Especially as my other car is a Caterham R400, with the race six speed box, which is a very short throw.

Anyway thanks to all for the responses so far, they really help.

I have decided the best way for such an expensive and new car is to get the OPC to fit it.

I have one question though, is the part number the same for the SS, as if you spec it from new, or is it a different part number when you order it as a retro fit.

Thanks again to all that provided great input and advice.

    Cheers,

    Nige.
