Sport Chrono Package is possible to fold abway!

Have a look to the orignial Porsche-997-Site. There is a movie under Development/Design/Film. In here you can see that this clock can fold away (very very cool !

    That's a clay model
The finished version is different, and can't be folded away, unfortunately

Re: Sport Chrono Package is possible to fold abway!

Are you sure - thats a pitty! Would have been nice!

Re: Sport Chrono Package is possible to fold abway!

Judging from the pictures, i don't see any way to fold it.
Unless the side 'lips' are detacheable..

Nevertheless, it would be a good mod for the carrera

Re: Sport Chrono Package is possible to fold abway!

Someone will soon have aftermarket " dash plugs " for pre-ordered cars where potential buyer wants to get rid of it

Re: Sport Chrono Package is possible to fold abway!

    Exactly my thoughts
Too bad there aren't too many 997s around here (read:none), otherwise it would've been a good business opportunity

Not possible, I posted that a few days ago.

Re: Sport Chrono Package is possible to fold abway!

It doesn't fold away, but is replacable with the following similarly "ultra high tech "driving tool from Porsche

And instead of pointing north, it always points to Zuffenhausen!

Re: Sport Chrono Package is possible to fold abway!

I bet that Chrono is the direct result of PAG responding to requests from Porsche Owners Club's Time Trialers.

C'mon guys, why don't you wait until you have all details about the Chrono Sport Package Plus? Be fair, give Porsche a chance.

Re: Sport Chrono Package is possible to fold abway!

    Too funny MKW

    RC,
I don't think the problem is what the function of the chrono is, it might have some "cool" functions. The problem is that they could of integrated it with the PCM, which not only is already there in all the models since its standard now, but also would be much more discrete and probably more fuctional or ergonomic as well, instead of sticking a gauge by itself right in the middle of the dash sticking out, which is a bit too "rice" in lack of a better word Anyway its a good thing its optional

Re: Sport Chrono Package is possible to fold abway!

Carlos- you have it right. Porsche could have integrated a cool F1 style data logging option using the now std PCM screen.
Apparently, CEO Weidekin himself ordered the dash top chrono after seeing something similar on a Nissan Skyline , so your "rice" comment has some validity. How does a teeth gritting designer or engineer say NO to the boss ?

Re: Sport Chrono Package is possible to fold abway!

I agree, Porsche is just trying to hard and the results are disastrous, in the 90's they gave us the directional wheels that only go one way, then for the 996 they just sticked a Boxster nose giving away the 911 edge, corrected in 2002 with a very laim set of almost rounded and for the 997 they decided to stick a clock on top of the dash as if infinity didn't already tried that... what about that hiddeous phone on the photos, are thos still useable?

I don't even want to write my possible solutions...

Oh no, now I see why the oval headlights are back on the 997 too, W. Weideking as influenced by yet another Nissan... the Micra!

Hello...HELLO...you can use the PCM system for exactly that purpose when using the Chrono Package. Why are you guys so upset? What did you expect? And why don't you wait until you see, hear and try this car in person?

that's the cornerstone of porsche's success: porsche clients hate new things, but end up buying it anyway.

but i agree to carlos etc that the functions of this chrono pack are interesting and i'd love to have them in my car, but this chrono thingy on the dash is just damn ugly. i'd rather not tick this box just because i'd hate to be remembered of smarts when driving around

No problem. As Carlos wrote above, it's optional.

So at extra cost you could have it deleted!
