    Real Daily Driver

Last week I was visiting my dealer and a 2002 turbo was dropped off for service. Manager told me it had 237,000 miles on it. Is this highly unusual? What's the budget for tires? Goes to show true quality IMO.

    Re: Real Daily Driver

Highly unusual? You think? If true that's amazing - that's a boatload of miles for any car.

    Re: Real Daily Driver

Now i am interested to see a F car with that milage

    Re: Real Daily Driver

We have a Swiss member with a high-mileage 996TT as well.

That's 94,000 miles a year! Was he the world's fastest delivery guy?

Closer to 40k+ miles per year.

    Re: Real Daily Driver

Don't a lot of CrownVic cabs and cop cars....and LincTownCar livery cars also have 200Kish mis on them??? So do they reflect great quality, too???

    From what I recall, have seen for sale a 1-2yo 360Spider w/70K mis and a 1yo 612 w/40K+ mis....

Suspect many new F/P owners have some combo of reasons for low mis on their F/P, e.g., 2-3 commuter/wkend cars; short daily commutes; live in region w/4-5 mos/yr of sportscar-unfriendly winter weather; travel extensively for business (by air); exit any car after 5-10K mis, etc etc....thus, many discretionary P/F are traded-in every 1-2 yrs w/low mis....but don't know that no. of mis (whether high/low) necessarily translates to reliability/durability.....

    Re: Real Daily Driver

A 200,000 mile Crown Victoria is like a 800 year old house, or a 1,000,000 year old forest. It may look ancient, but everything inside has been replaced at least once.

The Crown Victoria / Town Car is not reliable, but its frame is robust, and its spare parts are cheap. That's how it can appear to last forever.

If you own a fleet (i.e. can plan for regular downtime) and have a dedicated maintenance service, it's a viable option. As a personal vehicle however...

    Re: Real Daily Driver

    237,000 miles ... if he's aggressive, That's $25k for tires.

    Re: Real Daily Driver

My uncle had a car that he did 450,000 KM in - it was a Daihatsu Charade (stick shift) it never had anything mechanical repaired. Not even the body work in fact! Just regular servicing and oil and break pad changing. The funny part is, several hundred learnt to drive in it without breaking it - he is a driving instructor.

I am sure that Porsches are capable of very high mileages too - if you look at the used column in www.smh.com.au they are heaps of cars with 200,000 - 300,000 km's on them.

    Re: Real Daily Driver

I guess that if you're in the market for a 964 like a 1992 model let's say, most of them will have largely above 200,000km on the clock. This is what I figured out looking at many ads...

By the way many of them are still in great shape...
