I'm not too impressed with the pics. Maybe its the wheels that's not working for me. Price should probaly be under the base carrera.. Would anyone consider this car over a base carrera?
BMW used to have the most tasteful designs. Now it's just cheap porn.
I know. I'm really disappointed because I was going to trade my 04M3 @333 hp in for a new one. Now I'm just half sick and half pi**ed after seeing how they messed up (IMO).
Speaking of porn: can't they just leave the f'ng thing alone? Look at this rear view.
MMD: I hear you. I, too, have an 04 M3 I was waiting to hold on to for the new '08 M3, but after seeing these pics, (and those from Geneva show, I am not that impressed. It reminds me of when Lexus introduced the new GS430 in 2004. I had the GS 400 and was going to trade-in and the 430, the ARGH!! saw the pics and said no-way. Got the M3 instead. Now, it's playing out all over again. It looks like I'll be doing the 997 Carerra S this time.
Its going to be a good car and will be a threat performance wise to porsche.( Its an assumption based on the engine basically the old M5 which was a great engine)
Style wise I don't not see anything special. Usually BMW comes out with great wheel designs that exponentially make their vehicle look better. Other than the front end I really don't see much difference with a regular 3 series. If they claimed to change almost every body panel then should have added rear fender bulges imo.
Its also a strategy to make one get the more expensive model when they usually have better wheel options, It worked on me when I initially bought a 4.4 X5 when it first came out, great car but I did not really need a V8.
I like how porsche lets you get almost any wheel on almost any model.
I think it's quite fresh looking, the front end looks aggressive, and why shouldn't it?! It's got more than 300kws in the V8.. Those quad pipes looks puny though, The E36, whilst arguably nice when it came out now looks a bit dated , Can't wait to see it in person.
Sorry to buck the trend here but I really like the way it looks...maybe just a tad too aggresive at the front end, but then every car design seems to be going that way for their sportier cars. You also know its going to be very good indeed, cannot wait to see how it performs upon relaese, but I respect BMW enormously for the old M3...6 years old & still pretty much the benchmark for the hot Coupe..the BMW boys always seem to move the game on. Still wont be chopping my C4S in for one though!!
Blah, same whinging occured when BMW introduced the E46M3; "The fenders are too wide!" "Quad pipes are too ricey and unnecessary", "Why does it have a dome on the hood?".
Compare the E36M3 to the E46M3 to the E92M3 and tell me if there is some kind of static design cues.
