    Saw the 997 today!

    Guys,

    I saw the 997 S today in Leipzig. At first, I was told that taking pics wasn't allowed. But a few secs later, a good Rennteam friend from Porsche Leipzig asked me "Hey Pierre, taking pics for Rennteam?"... So I got the authorization...

    But I'm sorry you'll have to wait until tomorrow until I can post them... My turn to tease ya!...

    I always thought the Carrera looked great in red, sorry!!!
    One of the things that always bothered me about the 911 was the cheap looking and feeling interior in a very expensive car. Hopefully this has been fully addressed in the 997, and the initial photos are encouraging. Any more interior shots?
    Also, is the Turbo really going to wait until the end of '05?

    That's it. I was in a big hurry to go check another car, so I couldn't take more pics. And because of the reflections, no interior pic is worth looking at.

    My impression?... Put a 997 into a bunch of 996, and only a few people will notice it. I knew it was there, so I really looked for it. Otherwise, I'd probably have missed it too. But it looks a bit more muscular, yeah. It's also quite hard to notice the wheels are 19". This probably means that 18" ones would look undersized. What else?... The interior looks better in the flesh than on the pics, except for 2 things: steering-wheel and doors. I still don't like them. But the car was closed, so I've no idea how it feels and ... smells!

    Well... Nothing new in this report, but the 997 sure is worth having a look at when it'll come to your dealer (July 17th).

    Ok, I'll put a few other pics of this day in another thread.

    The Turbo in the background looks so aggressive in PIC 1 compared to the pudgy " friendly " face of the 997 . Ferrari 612 and 420 are showing smiley faces also . Sorta like body styling by the guy who does the Chevron cars :

    Yes, the front sure could be more agressive. But I'll wait for the Turbo to see that mean front again...

    is that some sort of carbon fibre effect around the headlights? from a distance it just looks like a flat silver/grey colour.

    You're probably right. Compared to the agressive blunt-ended Turbo and GT2 , regular 2002-2004 996 and Boxster front ends looks camel -like .

    Btw, make sure to open the pictures in a new window, they're bigger, and the forum/browser is resizing them (and that's where the jagged edges come from)

    A real beauty in seal grey. I must admit, the more I see it, the better I like it, even if it doesnt ressemble as much the 993 as I would have liked.
