    GT3RS-all over MSRP in USA?

I've spoken to my local dealer in Palm Springs as well as three others in Calif on ordering an RS. All are telling me they will be $20-30k over MSRP and want $25k deposits to order one or get on the list. I'm resolved to wait until the fervor dies down and am fine waiting a year for mine, but, will not pay over MSRP. Am I getting the straight scoup? Any other US input on the subjet much appreciated. ROW seems to be getting into them easily.

Re: GT3RS-all over MSRP in USA?

you're late to the party.... your dealer is about right as far as current $$ premium over MSRP, although the market is a total crapshoot at the moment... market could change and settle in either direction over the spring + summer months. Waiting a year is the best idea if you expect to find one @ anything south of $150K.

European RS production is structured differently; Euro production is also naturally incentivized for PAG to a degree, considering the EURO<>$ exchange rate puts Euro RS retail with options at close to US$200K.

Re: GT3RS-all over MSRP in USA?

Prob depends upon one's relationship w/P dealer and that dealer's base of repeat, deep-money custs; most major repeat buyers don't really follow pipelines very closely/place deposits for cars and balk at insulting concept of paying above sticker (or via absurdly priced $0 down leases), so smart dealers call them to offer early slots@MSRP w/cheap lease terms....and work their way down the mythical waitlists....and once well-run dealers run out of interested repeat custs they logically move to "market pricing".....

Had 2 P dealers in CA (dealers where I've bought many P's and referred many repeat buyers) offer me GT3RS@MSRP....I passed, as have zero track interest....

You are a good man for not purchasing with the sole intention to resell at a profit.

I thought Porsche didn't allow dealers to sell over MSRP?

Only in Europe , dealers have to sell at retail price

Re: GT3RS-all over MSRP in USA?

All US allocations were released several months ago...
If you were on a wait list and got a spot most likley you got MSRP.

It's only the late comers that get reamed by the dealers ....dealer speak = "Market Adjustment"

Re: GT3RS-all over MSRP in USA?

If you wait a year to try to get one at MSRP, you may never get one... There will only be a few 2008 cars released, and most of those are sold out already... so hoping for an '09 release may be all you can do... and I wouldn't hold my breath

Re: GT3RS-all over MSRP in USA?

Based on most comparisons between the RS and GT3, only the very best drivers would be able to extract the additional performance the RS has to offer. Yet it is 30% more expensive and apparently harder to get.

I am curious. Why would you want the RS over the GT3? You could have the side decals placed after market and find a tail similar to the RS to replace the GT3 tail.

I think if I poked around your earlier postings I could find you answer your own question...Something to the effect that "Rarity = exclusivity = better than mass produced = I'm better than you."

Nick is stirring up the pot everywhere.

    Nick,
Do you think you're extracting even 50% of the performance of your F430?

Re: GT3RS-all over MSRP in USA?

Wow it amazes me that people will pay over MSRP for a car. I have yet to see or want any car that I am willing to pay more for it then what the MSRP is. I guess that is why I don't have a super expensive car.

    Nick,

You have it wrong again, multiple times. Have you no shame? Or are you just stupid?

The RS is about 10-12% more expensive, based upon the MSRP on my 997 GT3 versus my 997RS with similar equipment.

You get LWFW, different suspension, different body and ecu programing..maybe Porsche is throwing in the decals for free!

Re: GT3RS-all over MSRP in USA?

Remember... MSRP= Man. SUGGESTED retail price... meaning actual retail price can be different. People with deep pockets can and will get what they want. For a lot of people $50K is not a lot of money to have a toy... my situation is different, therefore I weigh the difference between money spent and value received.

Correction. The listed base price of the GT3 is $103,000 and the RS $123,600. We are both wrong. Have you no shame?

Because putting side decals to make a car look like something it's not is tacky and implies you care more about posing than driving, much like a yellow soft top Ferrari.

Re: GT3RS-all over MSRP in USA?

    hehehe

But I am sure you do get my point.

Re: GT3RS-all over MSRP in USA?

Thanks all who have replied and I totally expected to hear the "late to the game" story. It's so frustrating as the moment i heard about the possibility of an RS, I tried to get on lists with dealers, etc and was told they were not even taking deposits, names, nothing that early, Was too early, now too late, no-win game? I'm generally the pit-bull jerk who pushes to the limit but this time tried to play the game. Anyway, I'm delighted for those, mostly in Europe who have their RS. Thanks for sharing pics and details of ownership-It's all I've got for now!

Re: GT3RS-all over MSRP in USA?

After having a 996 GT3 and putting 25k miles on it in a year as a daily driver, I want the larger, sexier and wider hips of the RS and NO sunroof. More then anything, the sunroof is the deal breaker for me, the wider flares a bonus.

Re: GT3RS-all over MSRP in USA?

    One word: Sunroof.
