    Re: Facelift timeline

Did anyone notice the 18" TechArt-style rims on car HT 0976A? I think it's the first time I see them on an official Porsche mule.

Yes I realised them right at the time, when I saw the pics for the first time.

    Good pics!!!!!

    Thanks!!

Re: HOT: Pictures from Facelift 997!!!!

ok read this article regarding the GT2 expected later this year - MY08.

    http://www.leftlanenews.com/2008-porsche-911-gt2-997-future.html

Note that the car is NOT facelifted. I do not believe they would launch a brand new GT2 model in the current shape at the same time as facelifting the remainder of the range.

    Sales suicide!

Re: HOT: Pictures from Facelift 997!!!!

I can't understand how they're going to trim up to 330 lbs...

They trimmed 220 lbs on the 996. Perhaps they are using lighter body panels?

They said they trimmed 220 lbs last time, but I don't think that really happened (from people who weighed their cars)...

I still believe the GT2 will have LED.

Re: HOT: Pictures from Facelift 997!!!!

Hmmm, the LED come in a new shape light cluster which affects the bumper shape around the light clusters. That means they would need to remodel the GT2 specific rear bumper from the one in the spyshot.

My money is on them not doing this.

I believe the facelift will NOT be MY08. I believe the facelift will be either spring 2008 or Sept 2008 and I believe that the GT2 and GT3 will keep the current (pre-facelift) shape for the duration of their production runs.

So if the GT2 and GT3 keep the current shape, will the standard turbo get the new lights?
And if so, why do the first spy pics of the turbo cab show pre-facelift lights then?

It would be senseless to give only the Carrera the new rear lights.

Maybe for you but not for me.
Turbo , GT2 , GT3 will keep the old lights which look perfect to me.

I also perfer the old lights shape, but the LED is latest technology. Just doesn't make sence to have all Porsches including Boxster etc with LED but not for the TT, GT2!

Re: HOT: Pictures from Facelift 997!!!!

Yes sorry I agree the TT will retain the pre-facelift look too for the production run. All of these cars (GT2, GT3) have specific body parts unique to them and cost of change for Porsche would be higher than just chaning the 90% of cars sold which are normal - (997, 997-S, 997-4, 997-4S, 997-4T, 997-4ST).

If Porsche were tooling up to make new specific GT2 parts such as the rear fender and planning to launch this as the same time as the facelift then they would make the GT2 have the facelift too as it would cost them no extra to do so from the offset and would make sense. Some people will ask why the GT2 was the old shape otherwise.

Its one thing to change the shape after a specific model is launched and not affect that change to the new performance version (e.g. GT2). It is a totally different game (and a pointless one) to launch a new niche model in the old shape at exactly the same time as facelifting the rest of the range.

I think that this is pretty good proof that the facelift will NOT be MY08 as some people expect or hope.

Surely we are very close indeed now to cars going spec final for a MY08 delivery. Im sure at least one customer ordering a car now would have been told "oh sir by the way, your car will not look quite the same when it arrives as the one you saw in the showroom". I for one have been categorically told by my dealer that there is no facelift planned for MY08. Of course this could be all lies, but as Ive said above I think my GT2 shape theory is good evidence to support this.

    Time will tell...

Re: HOT: Pictures from Facelift 997!!!!

New rumours from a friend out of Weissach!

    - There will be a LED and non-LED Version of the new tail lights (probably Carrera / Carrera S Differentiatino9
    - The Turbos will get LED with the "current" shape#
    - Upates are ready and in final test-stage

... havent seen them yet, but thats what I heard

Re: HOT: Pictures from Facelift 997!!!!

    Makes sense

Re: HOT: Pictures from Facelift 997!!!!

When will they start appearing, those LED's??

From "final test stage" I would expect it to come already this year.
