    How hard is it to remove the center console where

    How hard is it to remove the center console where the ashtray is ? I dropped something I need and it went down under the ashtray....

    The instructions to remove that console are in the workshop manual. In a special section.

    Here's a 997 diagram of situation. Puzzle can be solved with patience. Too bad there's apparently no step by step 997 hack yet. Using Eric's 996 pdf above will serve to provide clues.

    If you follow those instructions you will break something. Step 1 is wrong. The leather boot is not attached to the plastic piece as shown. The boot snaps off and the plastic is attached to the console with screws. You must remove the boot first then the plastic...unless other 997's are different than my 997S cab.

    The man is absolutely correct. These instructions are wrong and the boot needs to be removed first to gain access to the screws than hold the plastic in place. Otherwise you can easily crack the silver horshoe trim ring that is plastic. The good news is that the shift knob does not have to be removed to remove the console.

    why not calling your Porsche dealer, get an appointment, drop by for 10 minutes, get it fixed, have a cup of coffee, look at some brochures, get it fixed, and avoid this whole mess! that's what I'd do!

    Before I spent two hours (not 10 min.) at the dealer I'd bend a coat hanger (not plastic) with some tape on the end and try to recover it myself. Am I the only one who wonders what he dropped?
