Oil Recommendation for 3.8L 997 (2006)
I have a question regarding oil recommendations for 997's, specifically ones with the 3.8L (I have a 2006 911 C4S with a little over 7000 mi on it). Porsche recommends Mobil 1 0W-40 oil, which I used for my first oil change. I just had a rather large supply delivered (to have several interim oil/ filter changes worth on hand), and noticed that these bottles look almost identical to the old ones (purchased in June of 2006), with two main exceptions. Below the main label, the oil has "European Car Formula" listed in rather small font. The newer bottles do not have the "SuperSyn Technology" logo printed on the bottle either. The information printed on the back of the bottles is very similar to my old 0W-40 quarts (I have a few left over), other than being rearranged and otherwise altered a bit, and thus communicates the same basic info. I am wondering if this is a separate type of 0W-40 or is simply a newer version.
I did a couple of quick searches on this topic, and found nothing that directly related. Does anyone have any ideas? I mainly want to know if this is the exact same stuff, and just an updated bottle/ marketing strategy. If this were true, I'd assume that ALL Mobil 1 0W-40 oil now has "European Car Formula" printed on the front label and lacks the "SuperSyn" labeling at the top of the label. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
