congratulations!!! you just got the best hatchback in the market!
you forgot to mention that the unique trait of this car it's slip diff...in a wet track it's about 4secs faster than the Golf GTi...I've got the comparison test of Evo Magazine with all of its rivals...in terms of straight line speed the only one that's faster, and that's only after 100mph, is the Focus ST...in terms of rolling acceleration it's faster than everything else and in terms of cornering speed too...it's a road to road missile
have fun with it!!!
P.S.:did you have an Integrale??? my cousin has one tuned to about 330+HP...1.7bar of boost you see PM me if you're interested in more data..
what is the issue number of the evo mag you are talking about?
i had an integrale totally prepared by astra racing , 2.4 bars of boost 420+ hp , works on 104 octane only , sparks plugs needed to be replaced every 500 km , top speed was of 175kph , needless to say , it needed few seconds to reach them.. great car, the only one i really regret i sold it..
the issue of Evo I was referring to was 102 and it's the latest one...in there you'll find the test I told you about...if you can't buy the mag, I can email you with the data...
meanwhile, here's a video for ya...
http://www.evo.co.uk/videos/trackdayvideos/205152/renaultsport.htmlat the last hairpin, watch how fast the Megane opens the gap due to its slip diff...and as Honda once said, bye bye GTi!!! LOL
my cousin's Integrale has a new engine, just 1200km
, standard turbo, though he'll be placing a bigger one this summer, huge intercooler, custom stainless 80mm exhaust, no cats, forged pistons etc, can't remember the type of sparks he uses
, external wastegate, ECU mapping...basically he uses 4 programs and switches when he desires; the "wild" one goes up to 1.7bars while the redline has moved up to 7200rpm...transmission is a bit modified, longer 1st gear, and he uses a custom heavy duty clutch that allows very fast changes...you can basically change as in a bike...it sure feels that way...
then he has 17' Compomotive wheels, PSS9 suspension with Powerflex silent blocks all around and bars that make the chassis more rigid...
to cut a long story short, it's fast enough and basically you need something really special to pass him...I've been with him in a few "wild" moments, we humiliated a 996 3.4 Cab with 5th on the national road, many boxsters and even a 997S, standard Evos and Imprezas are nothing to worry about, while he's told me of an incident with a Viper where the Viper was a bit faster...so for the money he's spent, around 25k euros, it's a bargain
this pic was taken before he installed the new intercooler...
