Dension Ipod Link NOISE ISSUES !!! ?!??!

I had the unit installed today. Then menu seems to be working fine etc but there is now a sort of constant snap crackle and pop noise coming through the speakers when playing music through the unit. Actually if I unplug the unit it's STILL makes the snap crackle pop noises. I had a professional install it and he connected the unit directly to the PCM behind the dash and then ran the ipod cable into the glove box.

Anyone else have this issue or have any ideas on a remedy. I've contacted Eric at Bumperplugs.com where I bought it and waiting on a reply from him. I'll take it back to the installer tom. to see what they say as well.

Re: Dension Ipod Link NOISE ISSUES !!! ?!??!

No issues here, it works perfectly for me....I think a trip back to the installer is needed.....

Re: Dension Ipod Link NOISE ISSUES !!! ?!??!

Sounds like the kind of static/noise you get with unshielded cables or possibly exposed cables touching ground.

Re: Dension Ipod Link NOISE ISSUES !!! ?!??!

No such issue with mine--I agree with the other poster. Have your installer verify it's nothing they've done improperly.

Re: Dension Ipod Link NOISE ISSUES !!! ?!??!

    Not an issue with me!!

GOOD NEWS ! It's working now

I didn't have the installer put the AUX cable in - but went back this morning and had him install that to see if the open port was causing interference - and that did the trick....

OK - now I have MORE questions. It's running great except I can't seem to get it to search via ARTIST or ALBUM etc... when I select CD 6 Menu.... It just says ARTIST on the screen but then when I go to Select Track it's still listed by song.

I tried the configuration menu - but ironically sort of the same thing happens there - I can select TEXT but then nothing further happens - it's not actually selecting it... Any tips ?

I have an EARLY 2005 997S with PCM & NAV - no CD Changer...

OK - Kind of figuring it out...

Looks like you have to HOLD down the >> key on the keypad to select certain options. So I can no access ARTISTS etc but I still can't make the configuration menu work. I select what I want and then hold donw the >> button and it doesn't show any visible change in the menu and then kicks me back into FM mode... can someone post a quick tutorial on the way the menu structure works? I'm usually very handy but this thing is mystifying me a little... sometimes the toggle button on then DIAL works and sometimes I have to hold down the >> button to select things.... Is that just how it is ? I'd rather always be able to press the dial down to select things...

Re: OK - Kind of figuring it out...

    John,

My unit just arrived. I'm in San Mateo. Who did your installation and how much did it run you?

    Bill

Re: OK - Kind of figuring it out...

You are correct, you need to hold the track advance button down to access the <Artist>, <Albums>, <etc..> in CD menu 6. The same functionality applies to the set up menu after you switch the CD bypass switch on and off 3 times.

The unit will always show you "NO TEXT" when you enter the set up menu but if you select which option you want, "TEXT", "PAGING", "CACHE", or "+SELECT" then push and hold the fast forward >> button it will accept the change. At least this is how it worked for me. It is a very good unit. I'd like to see upgrades on the display however to include Album and Artist informaiton displayed in addition to Track Title.

Audio Symphony on Van Ness in San Francisco. $155 - ask for "Hatch" - he knows all about it - mine was the first one they did....

What does each of those functions do ? The manual is written in GIBBERISH !!!

Re: OK - Kind of figuring it out...

By each of those functions do you mean "TEXT", "PAGING", etc..? If so, here is what functions they provide.

"+SELECT" is the same as "PAGING" but when you hover over the album, artist, title, etc.. it automatically accepts the selection without pushing the enter command.

"PAGING" provides the functionality to move forward and backward in pages when the lists of whatever you are displaying are longer than can fit onto one screen with the familiar [..] unix type paging commands. For instance the top of each list will have a [..] on it and if you select that it will display the previous page of data. Likewise the bottom of each list will have a [..] and that will present you with the next page of data.

"CACHE", I believe, uses internal memory to read the data from the iPod and store the information into the Dension unit so it does not have to go back and forth reading to the iPod each time you ask for a new set of data.

"TEXT", I believe simply provides the actual textual information that is displayed on the unit.

"NO TEXT", Well I would guess this would disable the ability of the Dension product to deliver text to the PCM head unit. This option would be for head units incapable of displaying text.

It seams to me that these commands are somewhat heirarchical in that if you select "+SELECT" you get all the features of "TEXT", "CACHE", and "PAGE". I don't like the "+SELECT" feature because when I'm browsing a list and look up to see the road I don't necessarily want to automatically select that song, or artist, or album, etc.., therefore, I have my unit set to "PAGE".

Hope that helps and while I believe this information to be correct it is just from experimentation and I have not experimented much with "NO TEXT", "TEXT", and "CACHE" modes so hopefully I'm steering you in the wrong direction.

Re: OK - Kind of figuring it out...

Hank, You seem very knowledgable here on the Dension...can you explain how playlists work. I have 50 or so playlists but it does not seem to show the playlist names, just tracks...On the main screen I get the first 5 playlists shown & then the last item is 'chris's Ipod' I cannot seem to scroll through any other playlists

Re: OK - Kind of figuring it out...

You have to highlight 'chris' ipod', then press and hold the fast forward button to go into the sub menu under 'chris' ipod'.

Re: OK - Kind of figuring it out...

    I am stuck!!

I have just installed the Gateway 500 in my 997 S and it worked perfectly for the first 30 minutes or so. The second time I went to use it, it locked itself on CD6 AUX and I cannot get back to any of the other menu's. Playback is only possible via RCA on the AUX socket.

I have tried reset, new software and nothing helps.

Can any of you Dension guru's shed any light on this or do I have a faulty unit??

Re: OK - Kind of figuring it out...

I would recommend turning PCM off, unplugging iPod, cycle a few times..
