    GT3 engine fail

my GT3 was due for delivery tomorrow , they found low oil pressure and have ordered a new engine . i said to get me a new car .

    Re: GT3 engine fail

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO A BRAND NEW CAR... IMAGINE THE DEPRECIATION OF YOUR VEHICLE WHEN YOU SELL IT IN THE FUTURE MENTINONING A ...REPLACED ENGINE.

DONT AGREE ARGUE WITH THEM EVEN LEGALLY....I WOULD ANYWAY.

    Re: GT3 engine fail

Pressure them to get you another brand new car.

    It is not acceptable

    Re: GT3 engine fail

scud, since you haven't even taken delivery yet, surely the purchase isn't even complete yet. You may have paid for it and they may have done the paperwork to register it in your name already BUT you haven't yet taken delivery.

    Re: GT3 engine fail

It's your loss. I Would take the replacement engine and have the dealer throw in a PDE session and some other goodies for free as "compensation". You've essentially got a new car anyway. With a replacement engine you get it in a week or two rather than wait for 6 months for a new car. And the replacement engine will make no difference to future value whatsoever.

    Re: GT3 engine fail

Engines aren't even mated to chassis anymore, are they? In terms of serial number or anything.

I doubt a new engine installed before delivery would affect resale.

    Re: GT3 engine fail

    AFAIK, yes they are.

The engine does have its own serial number which is separate from the chassis no. When I first got my 997S, I was curious to discover the engine no. The German vehicle document said nothing and the EU Certificate of Conformity merely mentioned the generic engine details: M97/01.

However, by chance, I stumbled across this information. A Porsche Technician at my local dealer connected the PIWIS terminal to my car, and lo and behold, the individual engine number came up on screen!

So, if you want to find out your engine number, that's one way to do it.

So, I would presume that a replaced engine would therefore be a traceable event since the replacement engine would come with its own serial number.

    Re: GT3 engine fail

an ecu scan will gladly tell you your engine #

    Re: GT3 engine fail

Well, there you go! Yet another way to find out this info. Thanks roadtrip!

    Re: GT3 engine fail

With today's throw-away products the association of a particular engine to a body aren't as big a deal any longer. It was good that they caught the issue upfront and dealt with it satisfactorily. Go for the gratis PDE deal if you can as partial "consideration."

When the engine is replaced by Porsche all records are changed to reflect that the new engine is the engine that belongs with the car. Two years or twenty years later if you were to research that car it would show the replacement engine as the engine that belongs with the car. My '99 996 had the engine changed at the PDI facility at the port because they noticed the engine was leaking oil. I asked all the questions about the serial numbers and I was assured by PCNA that all records would reflect the replacement engine was the original engine that belonged with my car.

I never had any problems with the engine. I would do it again. It beats waiting another 6 months or so for a replacement car. And in the case of the GT3, I believe that they have all been sold/allocated, so a replacement might not even be possible.

I would agree if it wasn't a GT3. These motors are unique in the Porsche line. You can rebuild them - don't have to discard them like the M96/M97 motors, so you could keep that motor and chassis together forever...

    Re: GT3 engine fail

dealer advised me today they have sent all the data from the car to the lads in germany , and will hopefully get a email tonight on what course of action they want PCA ( porsche cars australia ) to take . i have paid them fully , but the dealer principal is a mate , we track together with the local porsche club , but he is in mexico for a new porsche release , so i have been told . and no it's NOT my loss . will advise the outcome hopefully tomorrow . a friend was told if you ordered a GT3 tomorrow , it would arrive in australia in august this year .

    Re: GT3 engine fail

It has no bearing on Resale value whatsoever........

Counselor we agree. He need not take delivery and ask for a new one. Unfortunately, he will have to wait but that is the choice he must make. Of course, all of this is subject to the terms of the contract he signed.

But in the real world, common sense would dictate that it will not be an issue. The dealer will not have any difficulty reselling the car and would not have a problem getting another one for his friend.

    Basically a no brainer.

BTW, those that believe that a rebuilt engine in a new car will not affect resale have their heads in the ground. In most States, you must disclose this fact. Failure to do so would lead to a host of legal remedies.

    Re: GT3 engine fail

Or, a logical trade off request would be to extend the factory warranty. I'd rather have this if I'm forced to take the car.

    Re: GT3 engine fail

    scud,

when did u place the order???

u must be one of the first in OZ to take delivery....

i left a deposit in 04 when i picked up my 996 GT3 . there are a few in my club already , so i'm not the first , but probably in the first 10 cars delivered in brisbane . the factory has given the go ahead to pull the motor . there is a one way valve leading from the sump to the motor , i have been told this is the issue . car should be good on tuesday unless other things spring up

    Re: GT3 engine fail

dealer has told me germany want the engine back and will send a new engine out . i have asked for a new car and am waiting to hear when one will be available . the dealer is saying april build for july delivery , which to me isn't good enough as we are in feb , and they should be building me one NOW . he has also said there may be a car on the way with my specs , so some unlucky sole will be told lies that his car got held up , which is what i don't want to do .the dealer told me the old engine will not appear anywhere in the history of the car , but i am doubtful .

    Re: GT3 engine fail

Are you kidding?! get your money back and wait for a new one. Don't accept this, not one bit. Porsche should have the entire car shipped back to them and analyze their screwup, not just the engine. Seriously, what's another 4-6 months.

    Re: GT3 engine fail

I think you also need to ask wy this failed in the short period of transhipping, when the engine would have been bench tested at revs and load less than 20 or so miles ago.

    Re: GT3 engine fail

oil pump failed and possibly sent bits through the engine . porsche are taking no chances so a new engine has arrived and will be installed next week . for my pain and suffering , i will receive approx $12000 AUD in carbon bits . i'll take it

    Re: GT3 engine fail

Not perfect but given the circumstances, a reasonable outcome.

    Re: GT3 engine fail

Scud, I think you are wise in taking the carbon bits in compensation for the delay. What I am constantly amazed at in these posts is that no one has mentioned having their attorney prepare a purchase agreement between themselves (purchaser) and dealer that will address these issues in advance. For crying out loud these cars aren't chump change for most people. You would do the same thing if you were purchasing real estate, so why not this?

    Re: GT3 engine fail

car delivered this week with a new engine . here are some pics incase you haven't seen a RHD one before
