    current 996 - 1370kg, dont know mk1 mass.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

just spotted the all important cup holders. just above the glove box, the aluminium trim strip must slide out to reveal cup holders. there is a little cup symbol half way along.

unlucky for the passenger if you decide to do some power slides without warning!

this has article and specs inc weights (all in german):

    http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/d/59406

It states 1.395 Kilogramm (Carrera) and 1.425. Anyone have the weight of the current 996 and 98-01 model?
I've only a mag here in the officce with a 2000 996 Carrera 4 coupe test drive, and the weight is 1375Kg.

    J.Seven

Great, 5HP more but also 25Kg more...
That was what I was afraid of, current 996 and 997 have same power-to-weight ratio. And the pre-facelift 996's being 75Kg lighter, even my '99 C4 with AWD is lighter than the 997 ... not good for the handling, I hope the 997TT doesn't turn into a pig no matter how much power it has.

And now the 997S is even heavier?

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Super! Thanks for sharing with us! One thing is clear: with Rennteam we're in good company to find accurate data and photos.

I like the new 911 design very much and should meet my banker soon to discuss swapping my '99 996 for a 997 S.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

RC - I am mostly a lurker here, but have been anxiously awaiting the 997 (and the eventual TT replacement too). Just wanted to say thanks for all this work!

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

My first impression of the car.... I prefer the 996 front every day of the week! But I like the 997 interior much more :/

I'm thinking on trade my 03' Boxster 2.7L on the end of the summer... If I decide the 996/7 way this is going to be a thought decision.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Thanks for the pictures RC! I'm not sure if I like all of the new 997-Design, especially the interior. It looks a little "plane". What I like is the wider body, the new double exhaust on the Carrera S and this little stop watch (Even though I'm sure that this will lead to more accidents, especially on track: They won't look anymore for the best line but for a quick lap time. Hopefully not on street )
I'm sure that in reality the car will look a lot different and I'm waiting to see the new 911 in July. But to be honest: In my personal opinion the 996 4S still looks better
I'm also a little disappointed about power increase. I'm afraid that I knew how Porsche will argue to all Carrera owners: "Well, if 5 HP increase is not enough for a new Carrera - no problem, we also have an S-Version with 355 HP."

Last week I got a final offer for my 19 months old C4S (X51): 71.400 EUR. LP was 105.000 EUR with 27.000 km on it. I'm glad I didn't make that deal.:

However, sorry for my criticism. I think Porsche will get a lot of orders for the new S-Version. And 355 HP with a 3,8L engine is something different than 345 HP and 3,6L. So I better start to increase my driving skills right know

Thanks for your work RC! It is really fascinating that you showed us the first official pictures from the new 911. Should make you a little proud

PS: Just got the official Porsche-Fleyer. Maybe some more Infos:

    For the Carrera:
    325 HP @ 6.800 1/min
    370 Nm @ 4.250 1/min

    For the Carrera S:
    355 HP @ 6.600 1/min
    400 Nm @ 4.600 1/min

    Sorry, no infos about weight.

Better Steering, shorter shifting travel (15%), new seats, 2 more airbags, PCM is standard, steering wheel horizontal and (!) vertical adjustable.

For years , the Porsche answer for why they didn't have vertical ( up/down) steering wheel adjustment like newer Ferraris and Lambos was that it degraded the steering feel ( vs. in/out adjustment which they have had for years ). I guess this is another sign of marketing giving the ( tall/short ) consumer what he/she wants : comfort , not what the engineer thinks is best.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

    u DA man!

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

So from a pure performance standpoint, is the new base version 997 ANY better than the 996? Like Carlos said, same power-to-weight ratio and more weight.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Aftr seeing two silver and black 996 Turbos today, I have no doubt in my mind that the 996 design was the best ever for 911's.

Hopefully the 998 should look more like the 996.

Kind of "post-retro retro", you mean?

Bilal, wait until you see the 997 Turbo.
The 997 Carrera and 997 S are no 911 Turbo.
Put a 996 aside a 997 and you might have a different view of things.

You "change sides" much too easy, Bilal.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

    Exactly Fritz....

RC, I don't "hate" Porsche or Ferrari, and I never said I do at anytime. My respect for these marques with history is unequalled, and so too for their cars. Its just that I prefer Mercedes because I'm not a "driver" yet. I don't demand much from my cars except that they get me to a place in an isolated fashion, and it doesn't hurt to have a 3 pointed star on your bonnet.

But the day I go wild in a 911.....

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

I'm in love again. I loved my 993 when I had it. I had been considering buying a used one lately since I like the 993 styling much better than the 996. But now, it looks like I am going to have to start saving up for the 997. Also been considering the m3, but forget it now that the 997 is coming out.
