Opening front compartment by accident killing me!

I LOVE my 997 TT, but hitting the button on the key and opening the front luggage compartment by accdident is a giant design flaw. My dealer says there's no fix for this (e.g., disabling the fricking button, adding to the delay before it kicks in). Anyone have any ideas?

Check out www.mods4cars.com for their module. I've got this and plan to install it this weekend. You'll be able to fix this "flaw." Either that or have the dealership use the PSWIS (sp?) and extend the delay. Mine doesn't open right away.

To be honest...the only part of the car that has been a let down at all is the key...not only this issue but it just feels cheap...especially in comparison to the one for my MB...

I read somewhere you can desensitize the key by opening it up and using an exacto knife (or scapel) to carefully trim down some of the rubber ridge material under the plastic button.

I have one of these cases (Cayenne key shown). It's padded, large, so you can't lose it, you can hide us$50 or a CC in there for emergencies. Using it I never had a problem with the sh*tty key design.

Plus its too big and bulbous. Needs to be flatter so its not so bulky in our pockets.

I have driven so many klms with the front compartment open even with 200kmh with my 997s and fortunately i had no accident..

Get back to the dealer and tell him to look into it further. He will then find that Porsche have recommended increasing the delay needed on the button to open the front lid.

The other remedy (as mentionned) is to trim a small amount off the inner button. The only problem with this is that it makes the key appear flimsy with a loose button.

Other than that, you can get them to disable to key function altogether.

Maybe stuff a tiny piece of foam in there to keep button from being loose. Foam will support button yet will be too weak to transmit force of button accidentally being pressed.

A good tip. Something i was looking into myself and possibly another way of doing it is taking the thin spring from inside a cheap ballpoint and cutting it to size.

I covered the button with a small strip of rigid-plastic and taped the strip securely with a small piece of tape. Works fine. I just open the trunk from inside the car now. Couldn't stand the inconvenience either.
