    2007... or wait for 2008?

    Hi all, new to the forum - love the topics posted thus far. Getting ready to pull the trigger on a new S, finally had the color and option picked out and I hear about the facelift, more hp and some other options that have me wondering...do I wait for a an 08. I'd like to order in March so I can have some fun in the summer. BTW - decided on Meteor Gray w/ black full leather w/ Carrera sport wheels. Appreciate your input.

    Re: 2007... or wait for 2008?

    I went through the same thought process when I ordered 3 months ago. I concluded: a) I wanted a car now and b) there will always be change on the horizon. The 08 997 will likely be updated 3 years later by a car that will likely be updated 3 years later, etc. I bought my 07 C2S and am very happy with it.

    Re: 2007... or wait for 2008?

    Yeah, you're in a sticky spot. Maybe look at your finances. What's better for you? Blowing the money now or wait a year and THEN blow it? A car will still be there for you to buy. If you decide to buy now then just do it and don't look back.

    BTW, I'm not sure if this is true but, you might get a better deal with the pre-facelifted car.

    Re: 2007... or wait for 2008?

    I ordered my C2S in December because I didn't want to wait. Plus, I do not like the droopy rear tail lights on the face lift cars and the front bumper change adds nothing. I prefer the current look to everything I've seen about the new one. 15 hp? Who cares - you'll never notice it on a car that already has 355. Why wait? We could all die tomorrow.

    P.S. I've yet to see PROOF that the facelift will be introduced for the 08 model year. All we have so far is predictions.

    Re: 2007... or wait for 2008?

    A few factors spring to mind:

    Financially, is the discount you can get now greater than the depreciation on your car after the facelifted version comes out? If so, that's great. If not, is that 'loss' worth less to you than the extra time you will have to wait?

    Having owned and driven my 997S since November 2006, I'm glad I didn't wait. But it's your choice. Do whatever you feel comfortable with

    Re: 2007... or wait for 2008?

    Here are a couple more things to be considered:
    1. sound - the adding of direct injection (DFI at Porsche) could result in a less great sound;
    2. gas quality - DFI is more sensible to lower quality gas;
    3. X51 aka the power kit - usually this option it's not available right from the start so if you want it the wait could become even longer;
    4. DSG aka PDK - if you want it.

    Also the ride quality will probably get better through optimization. Porsche usually does that. I remember that even the 996 "facelift" improved or replaced the gearbox at that time (I don't remember exactly but a friend switched his 996 for "the facelift", same model, and gear change was improved).

    Re: 2007... or wait for 2008?

    Hello (this is my first post).

    Im in the same situation, having taken the plunge at the weekend on a new 997S and now wondering if I should wait.

    Whilst there are several spyshots confirming the new front bumper and rear lights, I have not seen anything other that speculation on forums regarding a power increase. I am not holding back due to the lights etc but a power increase is soemthing I think could affect residuals a lot on pre-facelift cars.

    Can this really be the case??? If they pushed the power too close to 381 then the perf kit would not sell (bad news for porsche sales). If they increase the perf kit to compensate then it would surely be too close to the GT3 at 415, which in turn if increased would get too close to the Turbo.

    On reflection I think its unlikely Porsche will increase the power due to the knock on effect on the range, but who knows. Anybody have anything definate?

    Re: 2007... or wait for 2008?

    Each time they added something new it was reflected through their range.

    And the new Cayenne has now DFI (Direct Fuel Injection). So the 911 will get DFI for sure. They need to add it also in order to lower their emissions. And adding DFI will result in a modest power increase.

    We just don't know by how much and when it will become available.

    Buy used

    If you're not sure place an "insurance" bet. Buy a 05 or 06 to tide you over. If you want the rumored new 997 1/2 then why not wait until the heat has come out of the sales to the "gottahaveitatanyprice" people and calmly negociate a healthy discount, knowing you have a 911 you can enjoy to the full while you wait for your new car.

    Good point, its seams to be all speculation. Why would the company upgrade the 997 this year when they just released the 997TT less than a year ago. Also there are some sources that claim the facelift will be for 2009 and others claim 2008. The most credible online source ive found so far <caranddriver.com> claim that the facelift will be for the 2009 911 models.

    Re: 2007... or wait for 2008?

    Yea, I considered waiting but got impatient and decided to buy a slightly used one. Someone else took the depreciation and I got an 06 with 5k miles. I am happy now, but ask me again in a year or 2 when the face lifted one is on the street.

    I'm part of the speculators who think Porsche has changed their business plan and will do whatever they have to do stimulate sales. If making yearly facelifts (like other mfgrs) will improve their bottom line then that's what they'll try to do.

    Cold calculating business mentality reasons this way: upset some current owners who just missed the facelift OR replace those upset owners ("BTW, they'll get over it") with brand new buyers?

    I've resigned myself to guessing they would do the facelift next month if they could swing it in manufacturing.

    Re: 2007... or wait for 2008?

    35 more HP and PDK and bluetooth and iPod. That would prop up sales.

    Re: 2007... or wait for 2008?

    Facelift is up to you for aesthetic value. I don't care for the facelift. The current body has a "classic" look to me - one that will age quite well. The new rear looks too futuristic to me, and has a slight asian import look IMO.

    If the performance increases are substantial then I'd have to rethink it, but otherwise I'd go with the current model.

    Re: 2007... or wait for 2008?

    i am going through the same dilema now! ive actually already ordered my car and it is expected to be delievered in may. however may being the end of the line production, im just not sure it's worth picking up and having a new car for just a few months until the 08 model is out which is expected in October/November.

    i really dont know what to do

    Re: 2007... or wait for 2008?

    Welcome to Porsche. Porsche continues to make improvements to their cars throughout the year. You will find that no matter how much you research and try to avoid buying something that has a limited life it will wind up becoming superceded in no time. Just live with it. Get value today with your car, and don't focus on what's on the horizon. One thing that is ture,--there will always be another horizon over the next one.
