Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

RC, your tireless efforts to make this board unique and valuable to Porsche-philes, and to maintain your own standards of integrity while doing so, are greatly appreciated.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Thanks RC for excellent info and pictures.
rennteam.com is a truly great forum.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

I love it - very much refined as RC have stated before. The pics do look a bit artifical though, can't wait to see the real thing in life or more pics. Now I know I'm not getting the current GT3 and definitely going for the 997S

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Looks fantastic - so glad I got my name on the list a few months back.

One thing though - yellow brake calipers on the 'S' version. Does this indicate PCCB? Can't believe this is standard equipment. Maybe yellow is this year's red in the fickle world of brake caliper fashion?

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Looks great RC, nice job on getting the pics out!
Even though I spend more time on Rennlist, I know Rennteam always gets the info first and accurate.
Question, why do you suppose they downsized the rear tires back to a 265 on the 18" wheels? Less understeer I imagine.
I love the retro shifter, now if we could just get those retro wheels from the test mules ...

    PCCB is not standard.
997 S has steel rotors, although bigger than the normal 997.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Any info about standard or extra equippement?

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

What about DSG ???? Any information on that ?

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

    Not available yet.

    Most likely next year.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

RC, thanks for the pics. Did anyone else notice that on the gauges, where the tach is and it has what looks to be the speedo MPH readout back under the tach again? Also if you look at it it appears to be tinted Blue, not yellow like in the current model. have they changed the interior light color scheme from Yellow to Blue? Like on VWs? I sure hope not!

I also think the interior looks decent from that angle but it does not show the doors and that is what I really did not like in the spy pics, the doors just look uneventful and cheap, oh yeah and the shifter looks horrid, too basic, like it is almost from a truck....actually it looks like the original Boxster shifter.

Overall the changes are subtle, some nice, some not so nice but it does look like it is harmonious and in person I think it will look good. Worth upgrading to....not yet, but I actually like that part of the equation

    WOOOHOOOO
It's looking... exactly how i supposed it'll look

Well.. does the S has a different (wider) body than the standard carrera or not?

i had the same question... can anyone confirm this?

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Love the looks, I'm in. Just hope Porsche makes more standard equipment. All the cheap cars in the US have nav standard and Porsche still charges waaay to much for theirs.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Porsche can keep the NAV. Getting lost in a Porsche is just another excuse to enjoy driving it a little longer. With the price increase though, I agree a few more "standards" should be included in the cars.

Great Pics and Info as is to be expected from RennTeam.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Thanks for the all the new and real info RC....

My first impression of the car....I'm glad I am still getting the 996 C4S

I don't like the 997 front at all, but I love the rest, esp the rear half of the car. As far as the interior, it looks a bit more redefined than the 996, but for the most part, I like the 996 better.

Once I see the 997 in person at my local dealers, I might have a better appreciation for the "newer" Carrera....

    My 2 cents

    Retro

First Porsche does an SUV. Now a Retro car. Not bad looking though. Could have been a lot worse.

What is the basis of the 3.8 litre S engine ????

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

    RC,

    Thanks for the incredible job!

What can be added to all those comments about 997? I am glad I have my 996TT. The car looks reallly refined, but too much for my taste, it misses some 996 wildness, its too much proportional in my view :-)

But I am sure this design will grow on me :-)

I really like to see more technical related discussion here and not just design related. What would be the difference in DRIVING 997 comparing to 996 handling wise, shifting, suspension etc.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

RC thanks for the info, a new 911 is like a new baby in the family, a joyous occasion! BMW should learn from Porsche,a real interior with real buttons and controls is much better than i-drive with its computer mouse. overall a big thumbs up for the 997!!!!!

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

    RC,

Thanks for coming through as promised! I especially stayed up to see if you were able to post and sure enough you did!

We appreciate your support in keeping us informed. I'm not too crazy about the new 997, glad I'm taking ownership to my GT3 next month, but will wait until the 997 TT or GT3 to come out until I decide to move up.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

    It looks GREAT

    You're the man RC!

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Does anyone know how wide the 997 is compared to the 996?

Is it as wide as a C4S/Turbo? It's hard to tell from the pictures....

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

    Thanks RC !!!!

    thanks Porsche AG !

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

    Thanks RC.
    Nice car, I like it.
Looking forward to more detailed specs.

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

    Thanks all..

    The car looks great..

    Can't wait a RS/Gt3 and Turbo versions...

    Ciao

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

    Very nice.
RC please send me a sample of the S by DHL.
I need to make some tests before I order.

I guess everybody realized that rennteam published the pictures before the porsche website.
    Hip hip...

Re: 997 Pictures and Infos NOW AVAILABLE!!!

    thanks a lot, RC!

i like the rear but i definitely do not like the interior. way too cayenne-esque, not a sports car cockpit. could be some new audi A4, any limousine...

and i'm not too sure about the front. doesn't look too bad but going retro is always short living.

btw, PAG's web dept are fast this time, there's some 997 flash special online: http://www2.porsche.com/Precision911/pd.asp

Make sure you don't skip the intro, it features a short video of the 997.

Hmmm, it says that the 997 will be offered with an optional 5-speed Tiptronic, I though they were going to update to a 6-speed

It states 1.395 Kilogramm (Carrera) and 1.425. Anyone have the weight of the current 996 and 98-01 model?
I've only a mag here in the officce with a 2000 996 Carrera 4 coupe test drive, and the weight is 1375Kg.
