Also, you'd expect a real 320 km/h, not some number that barely equals the 430 and the Gallardo.

top speed is pure fantasy. I bet 1 in 100 will ever attempt it

I will. Did with every car I've ever driven. Then again, I'm sure you're right about the US, where you'd go straight to jail .

Unless you live (or drive) in Germany, you will have the same problem in Europe. In fact, Europe has tougher speed enforcement than the US overall, I believe.

Not sure where you live though ...

I live close to Germany. However, it's all about choosing the correct time and place. Sunday mornings mean empty highways here and the police are thoughtful enough to leave the highways alone at those times. Not to mention the much better roads than in the US.

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

Just did a tubi exhaust and rempaed my DME. All done by Champion Motorsports in south florida. Early estimates before dyno put the car at 530-560hp. You guys have no idea the power of the TT when really unleashed. Rev limiter increased to 7k, and sport mode still works.

Car is incredibly fast. Amazing there's still this much power in the car. I believe i have the third car done in the entire state of florida. Definetly worth looking into gentlemen.

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

    zeroHero,

How is the sound of the tubi? Does Champion use the GIAC map and does this void the warranty since this is from Champion?

    TIA,

    Mike

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

    Tubi sound bite?

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

Yes, giac mapping, and i'm pretty shure the warranty is shot, but who cares. Car is just retarded fast. Love it love it.

Trust me...the speed enforcement in the US is INCREDIBLE and very very tough. Not even close to Europe and I'm traveling a lot. Do you know how US highway patrol works?

European law enforcment does not have the same speed traps as in the US, for example they do video surveillance regarding speeding but they don't have those common US systems where the highway patrol can catch you while driving on the other lane in the other direction. Europe does NOT have such systems, probably due to possible errors and the lack of proof.

I never got caught in Europe but I've been caught twice in the US, stupid me. The first time I didn't know that they can catch you while driving in the other direction on the other lane and the second time it was an airplane! Trust me...Europe is paradise compared to the US regarding speeding.

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

Really getting up there price wise. I was already figuring $167k for a turbo PCCB cab w/ the options I want. With a powerkit and PDK you wont get much change back from $200k. And the above $'s are before tax..CrAzY.

Yep! Things are bound to get stricter, though. It's just a case of slowing everybody down and making traffic even dumber, instead of people taking responsibility for the way they drive (and I'm not talking about speeding) and pedestrians held liable for crossing the road where they're not supposed to.

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

i think one of the really potential crappy things about responsible tt speeding at the outer limits, if there is such a thing, is that the law enforcement folks will probabaly take you to jail for some type of big time infraction...leaving you handcuffed in the back seat of the patrol car,.. the tt at the side of the road awaiting duffus towing co transport to the impound yard...where it will wait with other dirtbag impounds for meth mfg, etc...think rusted crown vics, monte carlos, etc.

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

Montana is the U.S. state to live in, with some highways having no speed limits. Vermont is great too (except for the snow) - a few years ago they lost federal matching highway funds for not patrolling their interstates enough for speeding cars - but that may have changed by now.

I got a ticket coming back from Daytona many years ago (I am ashamed of this as I look back at it). It was on a completely deserted Rt. 85 in Southern VA - I had not seen a car in 2 hours. I was handcuffed and taken to jail on a felony charge - clocked at 162.5 mph.

However, when we got to court, the aerial photographs were not clear enough (twilight) to see the car, so the case was thrown out.

Now I find the faster I drive at the track, the slower I drive on the street.

Weren't speed limits reimposed in Montana in '99? In any case, arresting somebody for driving fast is stupid (several european countries are doing it - Belgium and France, I think, along with Spain).

    Yes. Unfortunately.

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

I'm with you on that. The track has no head on traffic, mother's on cell phones, trees on the outside of curves, etc. etc......and all that without a helmet or suit....

Maybe they will improve the exhaust with the powerkit. Yesterday I was behind one in my mini and it sounded very whimpish. I just don't know why they castrated the car.

This is one of the few times I can say I agree with you wholeheartedly.

20hp can be explained by just an exhaust. I bet it is an exhaust and some "fluff" updates (i.e. bogus) that serve absolutely no function but help justify a huge price. Then again, these cars aren't targeted to bargain-hunters

I sincerely doubt it. Just look at the old X50. Reinforced transmission, bigger intercoolers, bigger turbochargers. It will still hold back the BMW M6 even today. The Turbo powerkit will be expensive, but I can guarantee you that it won't just be the exhaust. It will probably be as moddabl as the old X50 was. Slap on a good exhaust and an ECU upgrade and the car will be making close to 600 bhp. And if what Kreso had stated before is true, the engine will be bored out to 3.8 litres.

I agree, historically, the PK has always been worth its price

Personally, I would expect the 0-200kph time to improve by slightly less than 1s and 0-300kph time by ca. 3-4s. This would be sufficient to put a (small) gap between the 997TTx50 and its competitors (F430, Gallardo, Z06).

However, I still doubt that the PK will be delivered before calender year 2008

I hope Porsche makes more than a small gap, minor mods on the other cars will result in another up hill battle for P owners to get next to the competition.
