I look for older 911s to maybe buy and the ones with the "fashion" colors always look pitiful. They also seem to be the ones that are still for sale by the time I get to see them.

Nothing beats black (or grey? any other timeless classic colors?) for looking good for a long time.

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

You're probally right. Can't go wrong with the classic colors.

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

Imagine my (or anyone's) disappointment to see for sale this "great" SC from a distance and then close in on it and open the door and get a shot like this:

AWWWWGH! (makes a good story to tell though)

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

    WOW.

LOL. Here's the rest of the crushing blow of color.

sad, since car was in great shape too (1981? SC).

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

What do you mean fashion colors?

By no means Terracotta is a fashion color, dark red is always color that associated with sport, look at Ferrari. I know a lot of folks like Porche because as an "ordinary" sport car and look at it like oh yes I bought Porsche but its a "common" car but I refuse to be like every one. Black on silver hell yea if its your 1, 2nd Porsche or M5 what ever and you afraid to make mistake but after some time you understand that you want special not ordinary car. The same thing happens when you keep buying used ones thinking you save so much money and then discover what it really means to buy your own special car with options you really like and admire. Been there done it. Now to me Black/Terracotta Interior with black basalt exterior with rear of sport seats and rear concole paint in exterior color are an old time classic. I didnt make my mind convertible or coupe, but will do very soon.

the question is how different convertible is from the coupe noise isolation wise and insulation wise (with coldwinter here its not easy some times) with roof closed in 997s case. I am leaning towards convertible since I have sport coupe already. To have f430 coupe and 997 coupe dont make sense yet coupe is the real driving expierence in my view.

    How about the Targa?

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

too heavy, I want the real daily drive Porsche, for me is rear wheel drive S version, pse, sport chrono package, sport seats, full leather interior and few more little things. I wish I could decide conv or coupe already...

Ferrari is outrageous. A black exterior with a bright red interior and gold-plated wheels and trim would be about right! (I'd BUY that: 100% Ferrari).

Thing about fashion colors it you can't really tell if they will hold up over time. I (a total amateur) suspect Terracotta is on that list.

Here's what MAY be perceived as another example of a non-classic Porsche color; very fashionable for 1980:

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

For what it's worth, Terracotta has been around as an interior color in German sports and luxury cars forever... When I saw the Terracotta option for the first time offered in the 997 brochure, it immediately took my mind to early speedsters and mid-late 50's Mercedes SL's, classic beauty...

Black interiors are o.k., but dim and dreary. If you ever take a look at old pre-war high-range Limousines (Packard, Cadillac, Mercedes, Rolls, etc..), the driver was always relegated to a straight-black leather bench, and the passenger compartment was always done in lighter-colored leathers or wools... The aristocratic ladies and gents never sat in the dark din of a black cave...

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

BTW, that brown in the pic above still looks great to me....

Hey, if you like your interior to reflect a prison-cell.. run with it!!

I love this sort of stuff. History far enough away to draw conclusions that you can be pretty happy with for a long time

Thanks for the contextualization of Terracotta too; I'll pay more attention to it in that regard.

If this looks 'dated'... I'LL TAKE IT!!!!!

(if MMD posts that ridiculous turquoise interior one more time, I swear I'll regurgitate my breakfast
NOBODY is contemplating ordering a neon-blue interior...
.....All the 997 interior leathers look excellent when seen in the flesh, safe classic black included..... Alois Ruf even does a nice variation on palm green in the Ruf Cayman... I wouldn't kick that car out of my garage, either)

Although I'm very impressed by the thinking behind your opinion, there's only one hesitation in my mind. Yes, terracotta is a classic colour from the past (and the old Mercedes Benz SL photos prove that beyond any doubt), the question remains whether this is a classic colour that 'works' on a thoroughly modern 21st century car. For me, somehow, darker interiors like black, natural grey and cocoa really work in a way that lighter interiors don't. But that's just my personal preference. It's just perhaps my mental image of how a modern Porsche should look determining my colour choice subconsciously.

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

Understood... I think things get a bit over-thought when it comes to these matters.

It's just what floats your boat, period.

If you've got some classic or historical perspective that supports your opinion as being more timeless than "faddish", then all the better. Classic designs never seem to die. Some are constants, that evolve in front of you for eternity. Others orbit, disappearing for awhile and then re-appearing just as gloriously as the last time.

My polarizing toward lighter-brighter interiors has been an evolution. I started out my car-loving career as a triple-black Darth Vader guy... I've discovered over time that I feel more cheery and relaxed and at ease in a lighter interior, it makes the car less claustrophobic. I also like to be able to SEE the dirt so I can properly clean, rather than it be "hidden", as I like to keep my interiors like a microchip manufacturing facility. A bit neurotic, but what the hell....

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

Cocoa is great but it works in my opinion (and my dealership guy too) only with bright exterior such as silver. I want something more interesting a san exterior color such basalt black or midnight blue.
One thing with terracotta not claer if its deep dark red or its light red almost orange (something I dont really like) some pics show both. To me if to go with bright interior the new two tone interior is the only one, since otherwise the car inside (dash and up) looks too bright if you choose one color not two tone bright interiors. if Porsche would offer natural brown on black instead of sand beige on black that would be my best combination. Basalt black on cocoa? What do you think guys?

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

I've seen terracotta very well myself. IMO, only 2 photos here do it justice:

    1) the photo posted by MMD in his very first photo above (#316257 - 03/02/07 01:05 AM) and
    2) the photo MMD posted above of adaptive sport seats (#316395 - 03/02/07 05:19 PM).

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

Terracotta is not a dark red... It's terracotta, i.e. it looks like an earthen clay pot. It's a highly organic shade. Here's a pic of my interior, set off of black exterior, that I believe is fairly "color-correct", unless your monitor is totally out-of-whack. See the contrast with the red caliper for reference...

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

Exactly, terracotta looks like a light orangey-red clay pot colour

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

look at the post #316257 black/terracotta interior the surrounding of the middle of the dashboard Iaround navigation screen) is terracotta leather then just one post below #316258 and #316259 the surronding looks like aluminium is it part of the aluminuim package? You guys are really helpful thank you...

-the post #316257 black/terracotta interior the surrounding of the middle of the dashboard around navigation screen) is terracotta leather ....
.....that one has the >$2K USD leather PCM option.

The other two pics: #316258 and #316259 are the standard Volcano Grey finish.

The optional Aluminum(look)/PCM pkg is a glossy & much brighter silver as below-- notice phone handset finish is Aluminum also:

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

The part that surrounds the navigation screen comes in dark grey ("Volcano Grey") plastic as standard.

However, you can special-order it in Aluminum-Look (option code CCP), black plastic (CMF), plastic painted in exterior color (CUF), or in leather (CUR) for a "mere" $2,230 US.

    Edit: Damian > me

    Re: Black/Terracotta Interior

AFAIK, the only things different about the centre consoles are as follows:

    1) in #316257, the PCM is covered in the interior leather colour (terracotta)
    2) in #316258 and #316259, the PCM is in volcano grey (greyish silver plastic).

The leather on both sides of the PCM in all 3 photos is interior leather colour (terracotta).

But, purely from the purpose of knowing what terracotta really looks like in real life, I wouldn't look at posts #316258 and #316259. I don't think they are that realistic.
