I'm getting ready to buy a used 2005 Porsche Boxster (Base model). Since this is the first year of the 987, I'm wondering if there are any known problems?
Re: Any known problems on the 2005 Porsche Boxster
I had an 05 987 before my 06 S.
I'd take a good hard look at the top in two places. Around the passenger windows for any sort of loose strings and at the rear clamshell (have someone else open while you watch) to make sure the rubber channels on the leading edge of the clamshell aren't displaced in any way.
Most importantly, if you opt for the manual 5-speed and there is stiff resistance when putting into first then avoid...at all cost. PM me if you'd like greater detail on that point.
And don't forget to honk the horn, it should sound...German.
Those were the only trouble spots in my year/22k of ownership. You may buy a model with less than 20k on it, in which case it probably hasn't been serviced and there are some minor TSBs on the 05 which should be taken care of at the regular interval.
Re: Any known problems on the 2005 Porsche Boxster
I think most of the early faults should have been fixed. - Oil pump pressure relieve valve makes a noise at 2krpm - Air con vents may break - Windstop rattles - Don't think anyone's reported an RMS problem... - Fuel filler catch is weak Erm, I'm struggling. There was a sticky thread for this last year, but it seems have been de-stickied.
