Aftermarket Mods

All you brave ones that have had aftermarket exhausts (AWR, Tubi, Fabspeed) and/or chip mods (GIAC, Promotive) done. Any problems reported, any warranty issues?

Too early for REAL experience I'm afraid.
I can tell you only one thing: ANY mod will have an impact on the warranty and ALL mods involving a different software programming are detectable, no matter what the Tuners claim.

5000 miles since protomotive ecu tune and 2000 miles since cargraphic. no problems so far with the exhaust and I love it. there were 2 instances of what seemed to me like clutch slippage when cold and only in 6th gear at full 1.2 bars. Both times happened when I tried to overtake another car on the highway at about 60 mph and when I floored it in 6th, the clutch spun like crazy. The dealer drove the hell out of it and could not find anything wrong. The tuner says the car is now too strong for the stock clutch especially when cold. when warmed up, it runs like a mad dog.

What if someone has a second ECU, the original unit that came with the car used for warranty issues (if there are any) and the second unit that one would use for the ECU upgrade? Evo sells a ECU for about $1500 + programing. It may be worth the $1500 if there ever was a major warranty issue with the motor. Any thoughts??

Porsche thought about that a looooong time ago. It doesn't work.

Its a good idea, but I would think that the original ECU wouldnt work due to mileage...wouldnt it still think you have 50 miles on the car etc?

Basically the car "knows" if the ecu was swapped out with another. Also if it was flashed and then flashed back to stock.

Maybe RC can chime in and elaborate on this a bit.

get an ecu scan and printout next time you take your car in for service...you will be amazed at the pertinent info the car is tracking...its like having a full time porsche lawyer on duty 24/7 on every car
