Raz, it is not in dispute that the CGT requires a valve adjustment at around 20,000 miles. However, no could tell us what the cost of the service would be. The up to $35,000 came from a couple of sources neither one being certain of the eventual cost.
It would sem to me that Porsche could clarify the issue and to my knowledge have not done so.
Did you buy one? Don't you have a Gallardo? If so how do you like it?
My dealer confirmed the valve job but pricing was much lower than $35K. I would assume any dealer's service department would be able to confirm the actual cost with just a phone call.
I test drove a CGT and honestly it was the best car I'd ever driven, I didn't end up pulling the trigger because at the time the selling price was around $415K and I suspected that it may drop further. I still may pick one up second hand now that all of the new ones are gone, but I'm in no rush at this point.
I did get a Gallardo Spyder at the end of last year and I've been enjoying it quite a bit. It has its own distinct personality compared to Ferrari and Porsche, not necessarily better than either, but different in its own way. I do appreciate the size and styling of the car, but from a performance standpoint I think it may be a little underpowered for its weight. The car does a good job of hiding the weight well, much better than my 996TT cab did in my opinion.
The handling of the car is quite possibly one of its greatest strengths in my opinion, it just has a ridiculous amount of grip available even under heavy throttle in corners.
The 6-speed gearbox is excellent, much better than the 360's 6-speed, but I haven't tried the F430's stick yet so I don't know how it compares.
Throttle response is quite good, I'm so happy to be in a NA car again. When I sold my 360 all I had was the 996TT and Cayenne Turbo, and after a while you get sick of the turbo lag
Then there's the sound. Oh the sound. Underneath overpasses, the Gallardo turns into a completely different beast.
It is incredibly easy to drive, the only exception being visibility but the rear view cam helps with that. The interior is very nice, better than any Porsche or Ferrari I've had up to this point (note: my F430 doesn't get here until April).
The driving position is good but not perfect for me, the seats appear to only go up at an angle and thus getting the perfect position between the steering wheel, pedals while maintaining visibility isn't always possible. The car's steering also isn't as engaging as I'd like it to be, although it is worlds better than the original '04 and non-SE '05 gallardos in my opinion. Some of this is going to be due to the AWD system.
Overall it is a very fun car
