    Steering wheel vibration/shudder at 60mph+?

    I'm experiencing noticeable (but not severe) shudder or vibration in my steering wheel at speeds over 60mph. I assume this is not normal. Any insights?

    Have your wheels re-balanced.

    Rule out flat spots.

    Like Puffy says, sounds like a classic case of your wheels getting out of balance.

    could be that your tyre wear is not round...

    If you're braking while getting shudder your rotors or discs have corrosion. If you're not braking then your wheels are not balanced, your tyres are unevenly worn (only possible if you track the car and switch ABS off), or you have a suspension problem. As a long shot it's possible your pads are binding to the discs/rotors. I would check this fairly quickly. 911s aren't designed to be driven under 60 on the open road!

    If yoiu hit a pot hole hard enough it is easy to bend a wheel or wheels. I would take it to a tire shop, and get them to check the balance and they can tell you if you have problem with the wheel.

    1) Tires out of balance
    2) Flat spot due to braking (anti-lock does not prevent flatspots 100% of the time.)
    3) Bent wheel - I went through this - Porsche wheels bend easily, hard to spot (will balance just fine) but can be repaired most of the time.
    4) Wheel bearing failure - not on a 997 unless you have been driving it non-stop since you left the factory.

    If the balance is correct then most of the time it will be a bent wheel.

    Great advice. For me the fact you said it happens above a particular speed (60mph) sounds like resonance, and therefore balance.

    my dealer tells me the car is set up to feel every bit of road stone/bump/etc...
