    Lexus LC 500

Any one seen or driven one?

I love the design, the squatness and the width. The rear is a bit too bulky, but I suspect it may look different in the metal.

    Sounds absolutely amazing.

I love it, would be my choice if I was in the market for a big coupe. Very original.

Agreed, I love them, very refreshing.

    Re: Lexus LC 500

quite "cheap", about the same price as a base 911 Carrera in the UK .. around £78,000

    heavy though at 1935kg!!!

    Re: Lexus LC 500

Design not my cup of tea and weight is just... angel

Tech seems to be interesting though.

    Re: Lexus LC 500

I"ve seen a couple in real life. They are very handsome and sound great but I doubt they are any of our cups of tea. I"d much rather an MB S Class coupe. Competes against that and I guess people that buy Caddy coupes as well. Stunning interior as well. So I guess if you are looking for a luxo-barge coupe that sounds nice and is a great place to spend time in but don't care about actual speed it's a good car.

I am very surprised it is so heavy for a brand new, supposedly highly advanced platform .. what is the point of the CF roof and internal door skins?

I would guess Lexus has benchmarked cars like Merc SL class, which is also ~1900 kg?  Emphasis on luxury and looks in a coupe body style, not on dynamics, though their surprising decision to stay with  NA V8 means that it has very nice sound (and reviews comment that it is real sound, not fabricated - hint BMW).

At least in North America, Lexus have a reputation as very reliable and well engineered cars, and residuals for most models have been fairly strong.  The usual EU bias against made-in-Japan cars would, I expect, mean that the same will not apply in Europe.

    Re: Lexus LC 500

Just saw one of these yesterday, and I have say its a very imposing car in the metal, the front is aggressive but stylish. The back is a bit heavy but still, it will definitely turn some heads. Funny enough, a few hours later I had a close look at the MB S coupe and while it would probably be my choice of the two, the Lexus is definitely more daring in design.

    Re: Lexus LC 500

Lexus does poor marketing. I don't know where any of their models fall based on designation, and I don't even know when they have a new car out. I know of the LX, RX, LS, LFA, and that's about it. Aside from the LFA, I don't even know what types of cars those are, if they have new ones recently, or even if they're still being used. Hell, I might even be wrong about some of those names.

Lexus is seemingly a luxury brand without luxury marketing. I've literally never even seen this car, not in real life or even on the Internet. First I've ever seen/heard of it. That's pretty bad IMO.

That said, it's Japanese and kinda pricey, so I'm sure it's a nice car and reliable.

    Re: Lexus LC 500

Here in the UK Lexus win JD Power reliability and customer service virtually every year. I have a friend who has had Lexus continually for around 20 years, never had a problem and always treated like royalty whenever he visits, unlike my local VW dealer who just ignore showroom visitors in the apparent belief that as their cars are so good they don't need to be welcoming. We were looking at Lexus a couple of years back and may think again next year when I retire. Problem is, none of their cars get very good reviews from a driving perspective, their small car is just a Prius in drag and IS and above large cars. We're planning to keep our Boxster GTS and possibly trading in SWMBO's Honda Jazz and my Volvo (which by then will have covered a comparatively high mileage and is manual) for a daily drive, Audi A3 or Golf GTI currently on the short list. Needs to be auto as SWMBO prefers that to a manual.

the SL500 (all aluminium), with its metal folding roof (has magnesium) and additional twin turbos, is about 150kg lighter

nearly .. 1980kg for the Sport + version with the RWS and rear spoiler .. not sure if this includes the 75kg for driver and luggage (i.e EU standard).

    Re: Lexus LC 500

Seems nice. Probably wouldn't pay $100K for it, but still seems nice and unique in the seas of luxury sports cars that are just evolution rather than revolution.

    Exhaust sounds good at 13:00

Sounds good indeed, reminds me a little bit of the LFA in a way or another but I would never ever pay 100k for this car. Not even USD. Smiley Maybe 60k...maybe. Exterior design is too Japanese (in a negative sense) for my taste.

    Re: Lexus LC 500

You have to see the LC500 in person to really appreciate it. I've sat it one and listened to the beautiful V8 engine note. Lexus should be thanked for being bold enough to stick with NA V8s. The exterior design is one of the best I've seen in a long time, especially for a car that only costs $100K. The issue for many is that its a Lexus. The quality of the interior is top. Maybe if it were priced at $200K and lets say have more power than it does, it would have more recognition and would complete with Astons. Just Maybe.

    Re: Lexus LC 500

Love it, just don't have space anymore

    Re: Lexus LC 500

I've seen a couple of them, and it's a great looking car. Build quality seems very high, and it certainly has road presence.

    Re: Lexus LC 500

I love this car! Over here it's cheaper than the base Carrera by 10% and has a lot more kit. The only option is the performance option which has all the Carbon parts and RWS. I may get one!

Here in SA it is pricey

Design is epic and has real road presence, interior puts me off. Not close to the German trio !!

I do not like how it looks from the outside (a bit too...I don't even know what to say...) but interior is nice and engine seems to be a treat indeed. Smiley

In Germany, this car starts at 100k EUR (99200), too much for a Japanese car I'm afraid. A C63 S AMG Coupe is much cheaper (base price).

    Re: Lexus LC 500

in an era of look alike and identikit cars, the LC is right out there with its stunning design.

In the UK, they have priced it quite aggressively. I drove a Sport + (RWS and pop up rear spoiler) for around 20 miles a couple of weeks ago. The V8 sounds wonderful as you can hear it well since road noise insulation is superb. It's quick, but not 21st century sports car quick.

The ride and handling belies it weight and size; no doubt RWS helps.

The 10 speed auto is pointless .. in fast driving, you never go beyond 4th!

    It's an impressive car IMO.

Yes it is. Better than what Audi, BWM, and Porsche has been doing lately with their conservative approach. Cannot include MB in that list as I think they are much more daring with all those G class variants, their AMG GTR, in addition to the S class that is head and shoulders above their rivals.

    Re: Lexus LC 500

The design reminds people a tiny bit of the LFA but this is the only positive thing about it. I get it, people want a more extroverted design sometimes but for most locations on this planet, this is a very bad idea.
