    997 Turbo - Powerkit

Latest rumor: 997 Turbo Powerkit is coming (as we suspected a while ago), estimated power is 510-515 HP, slightly below the power figure of the upcoming 997 GT2 (rumored 520-530 HP). No availability date known yet but rumors indicate summer or autumn 2007, maybe even earlier.

There is also a very good chance that the powerkit will NOT be retrofittable...unfortunately.

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

thanks for the news! Looking forward to it along with PDK.

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

Any link to this rumored PK and the AMS test with the rumored 512hp TT?

Thanks for the update RC! Bad news about retrofittable...

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

What's the difference between an X51-TT and a TTS? Will those be the same?

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

30 extra HP on a 480 Hp car does not seem very much , specially if it will be sold at the usual powerkit price

Will it include some other goodies ?

Yes it will include two 1st class round the world tickets, two complete Callaway golf sets, one week charter on Flavio Briatore megayacht and two Porsche caps for the children.

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

Porsche is becomming so exclusive !

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

What about the previous rumors that the car will in fact be getting a bihher engine (3.8)?

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

Maybe they will improve the exhaust with the powerkit. Yesterday I was behind one in my mini and it sounded very whimpish. I just don't know why they castrated the car.

This is one of the few times I can say I agree with you wholeheartedly.

20hp can be explained by just an exhaust. I bet it is an exhaust and some "fluff" updates (i.e. bogus) that serve absolutely no function but help justify a huge price. Then again, these cars aren't targeted to bargain-hunters

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

If its anything like the last X50 package, it doesnt sound much different...I suspect just ECU tweaks really, same as with the chips tuners already offer...I hope that the power provides more performance benefit than 30 HP suggests...I figured this car would have 530 HP, GT2 550...

I sincerely doubt it. Just look at the old X50. Reinforced transmission, bigger intercoolers, bigger turbochargers. It will still hold back the BMW M6 even today. The Turbo powerkit will be expensive, but I can guarantee you that it won't just be the exhaust. It will probably be as moddabl as the old X50 was. Slap on a good exhaust and an ECU upgrade and the car will be making close to 600 bhp. And if what Kreso had stated before is true, the engine will be bored out to 3.8 litres.

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

i guess the factory aspect of it will be appealing to many at any price...however i suspect many will go the route of eclou and others...seems to be a huge and noticable increase in performance at a reasonable price...and with the apparent coming of re-flashability of chips as atomic indicated ...why not

I agree, historically, the PK has always been worth its price

Personally, I would expect the 0-200kph time to improve by slightly less than 1s and 0-300kph time by ca. 3-4s. This would be sufficient to put a (small) gap between the 997TTx50 and its competitors (F430, Gallardo, Z06).

However, I still doubt that the PK will be delivered before calender year 2008

No, for that you must get the Viagra powerkit and hit it off with one of the princesses .

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

Not retrofittable? That's a tragedy! What about all the existing TT owners out there? They would have had a captive market.

Looks like all the good stuff (PDK/PK) will only be coming a year or so after the actual car. I wonder what happens to the Tip .

Wasn't it the same with the powerkit of the 997 Carrera S? Not retrofittable for the first model year. Can somebody explain why?

Tiptronic is said to be replaced by PDK.

You all have to grow up. The car is not castrated! The loud sounding exhausts only appeal to people with a need to show themselves... perhaps they themselves lack something.

Every time I'm on a 30MPH traffic lane and hear a loud exhaust, 9 out of 10 times it is an F360/430 or some such. How ridiculous... sounding like 120MPH but only doing 30MPH. A loud dog with no bite - really!

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

What I would love is a Turbo S when the PDK is out next year (ie powerkit plus PCCB for $15k premium). But of course, P being greedy, that will not happen.

    Agreed - I prefer stealth.

Maybe I'm showing my age but I've never been a fan of a loud exhaust. I prefer stealth (and no wing!).

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

My guess is that, after one puts a new chip in, adds a new exhaust, and spends a lot of time in shops, etc., that one would spend very close to the price of the powerkit. I had such an experience with my modified 996TT.

Yes, but you still don't get the new ICs or the stronger transmission. The Powerkit is well worth it if one spends so much money on a car.

I am sorry but if these numbers are true and real, it is plain ridiculous to buy that package for only 30 hp more, .

    Re: 997 Turbo - Powerkit

    You all forget something...
If the powerkits is not retrofitable this means that is not only a different ecu or bigger turbos...
it means it oought to be 3.8cc

You are missing the big picture. Higher top speed, much better acceleration, bigger intercoolers and a reinforced gearbox. Probably bigger displacement as well. Chip THAT and then talk about how it isn't worth it .

I got the big picture, my problem is that (in the US), you can get all that stuff you mentioned and much more, for a lot less than 17k$ or whatever the package costs (warranty issue aside).
For me, most of that cost would be to have the warranty and that is way too much I think.
also, a chipped powerkit would not be too far ahead of a chipped stock and doing that defeats the purpose (warranty).
