As for the 997 GT2 RS you can twist it however you want but you can't buy a decent one for less than €350K.

If you feel that you need to pay at least 350k for a 997 GT2RS when the Internet is full of offers at this rate or lower, with cars priced in this range sitting there for 12-18 months, no transactions taking place you also proof that you are the person to believe in marketing messages like the one you quoted above ("like winning the lottery") etc. If you have the means to pay for the car you are the ideal victim Smiley

Some people don't seem to realize that the prices asked are not always (actually never) the prices paid. Especially in the car business. I am no speculator and I do not sell/buy cars in a professional way but I do know the numbers (a benefit of my part time job here... Smiley).

Guys, no need to fight over this though. While I am saying that I am not that much interested in the GT2 RS, make no mistake: If I could afford having more cars, the GT2 RS would definitely be on my priority list. Wonderful product, maybe a little bit overpriced compared to the competition (is there any with this look?) but still desirable. If someone wants to get this car to enjoy driving it, I will not have any objections. I know Porsche and although I do not agree with some of their product decisions and prices, the GT2 RS will definitely be worth owning (and driving) it. I have no doubts.

my issue is: will it be more enjoyable to drive than the .1GT3RS? i guess no. will it be more enjoyable to drive&own than the 488GTO? check no. so why am i getting one???

To make some money? Smiley Smiley

No turbo charged car will ever be more enjoyable than a sports car with a n/a engine. Maybe in the future if manufacturers really succeed in getting rid of that turbo lag. The 488 is pretty close to that I have to admit though. Much closer than Porsche (991.2 Turbo S) for example. Also, I assume that the 488 GTO will be at least as fast as the GT2 RS with a more exotic design (GT2 RS is definitely the Schwarzenegger of the 600+ hp car club).

You've never driven an F40 then? One of the most visceral and engaging cars I've ever driven.

Nick, If you're looking for slower speeds but aural delight, fun in the corners and revs galore look to a short wheelbase S. Only a few '68's in N.A. (were never imported, I did have one and it was glorious) but you can get a '67. It's a special car and it makes the 3.6 Turbo feel big and bulky. So light and raspy and when it comes on the cam...Heaven.

You could say - in a very abstract way - that the GT2RS will be liked by people who also love the regular turbo / turbo s. These cars share the same genes and they feel very similar Smiley

Let's wait and see how will the 2wd version tail reacts from 2,500 ~ 4,500 rpm ,it will be interesting in the hands of newcomers Smiley

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWyvruWYRrI

OMFG, after watching that I am inclined to be a bit more lenient to Nick's view -  there really are people that incompetent driving these sorts of cars, the "accident" in that video is beyond words Smiley

This is a typical AWD car accident (of course it happens to non-AWD drivers as well...because they are idiots), the driver relies to much on the thought that he has perfect traction but especially in various driving modes, modern cars have an AWD which is tuned to run as RWD. After the very neutral 996 Turbo AWD setup and the criticism that it is too boring, Porsche changed this. The 991.1 Turbo S offers lots of traction but if you are in Sport or Sport Plus and fully accelerate with the steering wheel turned in, well...you can see the result in the video. Smiley

I'd say driver was unexperienced and/or was caught up in the moment (many cars, spectators, etc.). I am usually very cautious when I am at such car meets because I know stupid things happen, so I keep it calm and never show off. I don't want to make an ass out of myself (or even hurt anyone). Smiley Smiley

This is what Porsche actually expects to sell (as a minimum number) but they hope for more... Smiley

If they don't encounter any production and/or third party supplier issues, I assume we are talking more like 1500 or even 2000 cars here.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

They should sell as many as they can... The price is high and margins pretty good, better Porsche makes the profit than the speculators, so they can produce a nice full EV Macan kiss

On Fchat some claim that the GT2RS is not sold out in the USA... Reasons are the high price and the engine derived from the regular turbo.

'sold out' is maybe not the correct word given that probably the PAG doesn't know the production number

That's right, no allocations in US yet, dealers have no idea how many they will get or will there be any cars available to non 918 owners.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

North American allocations aren't released until the 4th quarter.

Whatever they are saying, there is no 'confirmed' orders except for 918 owners' orders. Those are the only confirmed ones.

The car cannot be a 'sellout' as all dealers don't have their exact allocations.

It's the dealers' way of pushing more market adjustment on GT2RS orders.

Got this video from RL. I know its a promotional piece but watch Webber and Rhoel go speechless seems sincere. As I said this car is too much for 99.9 of those buying it.

    For a 2 year run, Porsche makes around 4000 Turbo/Turbo S.

those are much more common sight than a GT3RS, what makes you think Porsche made more GT3RS than those?

The stupidity of the buyers... They thought the car is limited and then they bought many more than of unlimited cars like the regular turbo s etc. Smiley In fact, a regular turbo s Cabriolet might be much rarer than the new GT2RS. No kidding...
