The better part of your link is not the picture, but rather that AutoBild claims the Turbo and GT3 get PCCB for free.

    I don't think that's true, only Autobild bla-bla.

Re: 997 Cab Facelift - top down

    I wish it were true.

On the one hand, it'd be a cold day in hell before Porsche gave away what was a $8k option. On the other hand, they're doing just that with the power increase the facelifted 997 is getting. I'm afraid the truth is in the pudding.

Re: 997 Cab Facelift - top down

Autobild claims that the 'top models' are to receive standard PCCB. For all we know that could mean Turbo S and GT2. It's vague at best.

Re: 997 Cab Facelift - top down

Or it could mean that the cars get standard PCCB, but the price goes up by 8.000 Euros .

That would suit Porsche better by far.

    Too generous!

Porsche will make PCCB's standard but raise the price of the car by $12K...

Well, that could be the solution.

    Re: Too generous!

This would make perfect sense in the US where Porsches are cheap these days. Basically forcing the customer to a 10k option, probably 5k extra profit for P per car, plus cost reduction in manufacturing the PCCB, and high tech image (first series car to get standard ceramic brakes, lower base weight bla bla)...

    Actually I love that idea...

    Re: Facelift timeline

After reading all of this post, I'm still confused on when the facelift is being introduced. Is it mid ''07 as a '08 model, or mid '08 as a '09 model?

    AFAWK mid '08 as a MY09.

    Re: Facelift timeline

Thanks Rossi. Actually, I thought it was the other way around. Glad I asked. Now, to buy or not to buy?

Re: HOT: Pictures from Facelift 997!!!!

    Funny rims. Asymetric

    Re: Facelift timeline

No one really knows when this facelift will enter production. All I can say is a) it sure is pretty funny that this thing has been running around since last summer with very little camo, b) several pics show it with a new antenna which is likely XM, and Porsche just entered a deal to provide XM starting in 07, and c) if I were Porsche (either corporate or a dealer), I would say it was going to be a 2009 model too, so as not to damage 07 sales. In fact I would deny it right up to the actual realease.

    Re: Facelift timeline

    Martini, point well taken.

It will damage sales numbers from now on until the release of the facelift. So earlier realising will save them from sales lost.

    Re: Facelift timeline

everytime i see the still facelift pictures released few months ago, i get a gut feeling this is one well made photoshop hoax. About the video release on utube...i am not sure. it is not very clear anyway.
    does anyone share this instinct?

    Re: Facelift timeline

"the latest reports indicate that the 2008 911 will feature a few revisions"

"Don't expect anything drastic in the styling department, as the 911's design progression has fallen squarely in the evolutionary, not revolutionary category. And once again, we can forecast that only automotive enthusiasts and Porshephiles with a keen eye will be able to differentiate the new model from the old. Expect a bigger air intake in the front fascia and new tail-lights. Since Porsche designers appear to be hyperconservative when it comes to tinkering with the 911's overall look, that should be about the extent of the visible changes.

Pop the hood and...well, you can never see much under the hood of a 911, anyway, but rest assured there will be changes. We swear. For starters, as backwards as it may seem to derive technology from a sport-ute into a sports-car, the new direct-injection engines that debuted in the latest Cayenne will be turned around and shoehorned into the back of the 911. Porsche is claiming that will net a 10-15% improvement in fuel economy, which of course is the first consideration for most Porsche buyers - read previous with sarcasm - and a power increase of five to twenty-five horsepower across the range. The bigger news is the replacement of the lackluster and outmoded Tiptronic automatic gearbox with a dual-clutch transmission, like its cousins from the VW Group. That should help close the gap between the clutch-full and clutch-less versions, and we'd predict an accompanying spike in sales of auto/Tiptronic/DSG versions as compared to their stick-shift counterparts."

    Re: Facelift timeline

This one will be coming to us soon - its bound to debut at the IAA on Sep 07; its the most important show for Porsche and for 07 with the Cayenne facelift coming in February they have nothing else in their cupboard for the IAA. Probably not available for delivery until this time next year so you have another year of current 997's to go. As for letting customers down its all a bit academic; they make superlative cars and we will continue to buy them; it really is that simple. Volume wise the update will have little impact on recent 997 family members - you can bet your bottom dollar that the GT3's will be left unchanged and as for the Targa, well they sold 5000 996's of that variant and in the UK some dealers don't even have an allocation for 07 - the entire allocation for all of the 5 Greater London area dealers (the ones owned by PAG directly) for 07 is 7, yes, seven, cars. Ditto for the Turbo; its an 18 month wait list right now and I dont think anyone buying one of those will give two hoots about this update. A 2008 MY also plays well with the forward looking calendar; 2009 wil be dominated by the Panamera with 2010, '11 and '12 taken up by a new 928, new Cayenne and 998 - but probably not in that order.

    Re: Facelift timeline

Someone could post some other pics of new 997??

    Thanks. . .

    Re: Facelift timeline

Excuse my ignorance but what is XM ?

    Re: Facelift timeline

Here in the states we have two satellite radio companies. One is XM and the other is Sirius.

    Re: Facelift timeline

Does anyone know if there will be the X51 option with the facelift ? And what would be the power figures ? And would it be immediately available?

    Re: Facelift timeline

I feel like Porsche f****d me. I am getting a Targa4s in ~10 days it's been over a 6-month wait for me. But I made a decision not to care about facelifts anymore. I'm choosing not to let them bother me Maybe it makes sense to order a turbo right now for my09 and just trade that one in, but let me get the car first before I start planning this. Or maybe I will get it and order a Dodge Caravan '09, so porsche's facelift is not going to bother me...

    Re: Facelift timeline

I just got an 06 997s cab. I knew the facelift would be out in 07, but I got such a deal I had to have it. I wouldn't have wanted to spend the extra $ for the new facelift anyway. Maybe I will wait 2 years and trade it in.

    Re: Facelift timeline

Niel - did you buy it new? how much did you have off msrp?

Re: HOT: Pictures from Facelift 997!!!!

Yea, I guess from an economic perspective, but then again it is fleecing the customers. I think the majority of drivers will find the excellent steel breaks more than adequate. A 10k+ hike seems audacious especially with the increasing competition (e92 m3, r8).

But then again, when Porsche takes over VW, it won't be a problem will it

    Re: Too generous!

There are ALWAYS new models coming out. There are always new features, even minor ones. There is always new power on the horizon. Five whole horsepower? I challange you to detect it. The new ones will cost more to pay for the enhancments, and may only have three wheels if the recent trend of eliminating the spare is continued. If you want the car now, buy it now. If you wait until they 'finish' the car, you'll never have one.
