    Porsche Upgrade includes dual-clutch/increased horsepower

    Four years after launch of the current series, Porsche's iconic 911 will be upgraded for the summer of '08 (I assume this means the upgrade is for the '08 Porsche launching this summer).
    Front end will get a larger air intake and rear lighting will be redesigned. Engine will be direct injection and the addition of an optional dual-clutch transmission. The DFI is expected to cut fuel consumption by about 10 percent.
    The Carrera S coupe, will have at least 370 hp, up from 355 hp. Not mentioned in the article is the availability of XMSR. Price for the Carrera S Coupe is priced at $115,474 in dollars and 88,247 Euros.

    115,474 That seems way too high.

    I think he reversed the dollars and euros.....$115K is euros

    Huh? 115k euros = $151,000 US.

    But 88,247 in dollars does make sense.

    82K USD is the base price of the current CS.

    No info on the base price of the '09 that'll be available in summer of '08. Since DFI and PDK (DSG in Audi speak) will be highly desirable, you can bet they won't be cheap. See Econ 101 (ie, the law of supply and demand).

    Would make sense. Considering all the close-to-production spy photos and videos ciculating on the net I would expect the facelift to arrive August 07 as MY08. Some people say the facelift is due summer 08, but I don't see why Porsche would test a "facelift" that extensively, 2 years prior to launch. For testing PDK and other new technologies Porsche could have used a normal 997 test mule, but when they also change the cosmetics on the mule you know the launch is near...

    This also ties pretty well in with the new M3 launch. I think some people see the current 997 Carrera S as inferior to the new M3, but with a power upgrade and a new transmission Porsche will keep those customers.

    These are the prices folks in Europe and the ROW have to pay. The $ figure is for comparison not an indication of US prices. Check the prices of Porsches using the Porsche website for each country to see just how good we have it in the US. I am certain the US price for C2S will be just a bit above $84K or about 3K more than today as this is the extra amount the Europeans will have to pay.

    Even the Canadians pay WAY WAY more than buyers in the good old USA. While the dollar has dropped (vs. the Euro) Porsche can keep giving the USA buyers a relatively good deal because large corporations doing international trade maintain currency investments (hedges if you will) to protect against currency fluctuations.

    Of course the biggest factor in pricing is still supply and demand, which in the US is spelled 'competition'. Porsche can not charge EURO prices in the US or it would not sell very many cars at all. Witness the outrage at the announced EURO prices in this post.

    All that aside - the direct injection will be a MAJOR improvement! Sell your C2S and C4S now (in Canada) and place your order for the facelift version just for this feature alone!

    115K for a Carrera S. That's gotta be a misprint. If that's true I rather have current C2S with X51 or GT3

    Yes I agree, that is how it feels like, but it will be over 3 years when the facelift arrives. The 997 Carrera 2 and 2S was introduced in summer 2004 and the facelift is probably introduced after summer 2007.

    Compare this to the 996 Carrera 2 which was introduced in 1998 and got a facelift in 2001 (when the Carrera 4S "Turbo-look" was introduced).

    Does anyone know if the current 997 can be cosmetically changed to look like the facelift ie will the front end and rear lights be interchangeable ?

    Where did you get that price bud?? This is right of the magazine: "The updated generation of the 911 also will come with improved performance. The Carrera S coupe, which starts at $82,600, will have at least 370 hp, up from 355 hp".

    THis has to be for MY 2008 meaning calendar year of summer 07, no way they would announce a "refresh" for the calendar year of summer 08, as it would tend to hurt nearly 2 years of current model sales..
    Of course this is not an "official" Porsche announcement, so hopefully some clarity will be forthcoming.

    So , if you stick the power kit on it , you have almost 400hp....Thats better.......

    Based on slow sales Porsche will introduce the facelift 911 sooner than later.

    You remember the Cayenne facelift was supposed to be launched in March at Geneva show?
