    2008 GT3 RS

I'm not ready to believe the dealers yet on whether or not there will be on 08 GT3 RS. I'm 2nd on the list at this dealer in Colorado and it's for certain I won't get an 07 as they are only getting 1 car. For those of you out there that have links into people with Porsche in the know...can you help those of us out that are going insane wanting one of these fabulous beasts. Are we going to need to wait for a 998 version which could be 3 years out?

    Re: 2008 GT3 RS

While I have no direct knowledge, I feel confident that Porsche will build enough RS's to satisfy demand, unless they are building a limited run simply to qualify for some type of exemption for crash-testing or other regulation. It is not Porsche-like to limit their profits voluntarily...

    Re: 2008 GT3 RS

I read in Evo magazine that Porsche has stated that they're going to build around 1000 cars...now we all know they did state a number for the C-GT but due to high demand they made more...so maybe they'll do this again

    Re: 2008 GT3 RS

We've heard only one year of production... for homologation.. but we're hoping the build a few more for '08 due to the number of customers not getting one in '07

Well, they built around 1,300 cars with MSRP of $425k, so they should be able to sell quite a few more cars at 1/4 the price...

    Re: 2008 GT3 RS

I'm crossing my fingers you guys are all correct. I would expect that we would know by mid year 2007 if they are going to build a few more.

Some thoughts from me, based on different discussions with Porsche employees.

    - Not only for us, but also for Porsche seems the name "RS" to be something very special. For them the name "RS" is more than a Marketing-Gimmick. I'm pretty sure.

    - Porsche do want (!) the RS to be a model where is more demand than supply. They also do want every RS-owner to know that he owns something special, a car with more demand than supply! (I would also suggest that a small part of the price difference - compared with the "normal" GT3 - covers this strategy.)

Of course, Porsche is in the business to make money. That is also for sure. Why shouldn't they?

So I would suggest that Porsche would fulfil high demand. But they would also take into account that there will be some (low) demand they won't fulfil!

So if I where in your position, and I would really, really want a RS, I would write a letter to Porsche. I would tell them why I really want a RS!

And of course I wouldn't write this letter to some sales representative ...

    Just some thoughts from me.

Mobile - Maybe you are correct, but why did they not follow this approach with the Carrera GT which is their top "image" model and a true supercar? Those cars were left in the dealer showrooms for MANY months here, since they produced so many...

If you don't mind me asking, which dealer have you been working with? I had a little bit of trouble with my dealer after my purchase this summer. A lot of little niggles and one big one left me with a sour taste in my mouth. PM me if you don't want to say in the wide open.

What I understood is that Porsche initially plans to sell about 1.500 pieces of the Carrera GT. The question would be: What would Porsche have done, if there where demand for let's say 1.600 or 1.700 pieces? Porsche didn't have much experience regarding a "Super car" like the Carrera GT in the year 2004 (Was it 2004?). Maybe they overestimate the demand? But even if so - Porsche normally produces on demand. So there shouldn't be a lot of cars left at the dealer. To be honest - I don't have a good answer to your question. I don't spoke to Porsche employees regarding the Carrera GT.

But I spoke to some highly responsible people at Porsche regarding the GT3 RS. And they asked me always the some question: "Wouldn't you like the idea having a car with more demand than supply?"

I'm not saying that Porsche will do all (!) they can do to help me having a very exclusive car. But in my opinion 1.000 pieces would be a pretty exclusive number and seems to be fair - related to the price of the RS.

But I also think: Even there are a lot of emotions going on in this forum - and I'm one of them - I don't think that there is so much more demand for a RS than Porsche is planning to deliver.

To make it more concrete: I don't think that the demand for a GT3 RS in 2008 will be very (!) high. If so, there will be a MY 08 GT3 RS.

But this is of course speculation. That's why I would write a letter.

And yeah, because for me (!) it's the best car I have ever driven. So much fun, so much pleasure. Unbelievable.

Sorry, a little bit of topic at the end

Thanks - I appreciate your comments

    Re: 2008 GT3 RS

Relax guys, ofcourse there will be a MY2008 for the RS. And there are a lot of reasons for that.
There is not the slightest hint from the factory that there won't be one, wich is a huge hint there will be one.
Just remember the past a bit here.
For the '73 RS they published ads stating that "only 500 men will drive one" in big gig letters. Well, after all they ended up building over 1500 of them.
When the 2004 GT3RS came out, there were quite a few statements about it being limited and the number 200 was spread in magazines. Well, 600 cars were built in the result. What does this tell you for the 997 RS, where there have not been any factory rumors of a limited run?
(You have to leave out US-dealer talk, what do they know)

After all it will be the typical scenario. Ofcourse there are the usual suspects (like you and me) that all want their cars within the the first months of production. Once that customer base is covered, it is getting thin ice for a model like that.
The 2004 RS is a good example for that. Big hectic in the beginning and at the end everybody that wanted one had one and there were a few cars left available.

I understand that it is a bit of a different story in the US, not having had such a thing lately. So things are bit more hyteric. But I am sure if you missed a 2007 with your dealer by a small margin you should be fine for a 2008.

Then again, if they would leave it a 2007 only model I would be a happy man .

    Re: 2008 GT3 RS

No doubt the 997 GT3RS will have a limited production run since it only exists as the homologation model for the 997 GT3RSR race car. Nonetheless, I agree with other posts here that the actual numbers produced will swell to satisfy demand. Since when has Porsche looked away from making easy profits?

    Re: 2008 GT3 RS

Even better than a letter. My dealership still has my deposit. I am now #1 to go. Weather they make a few more this year(rumer) or for M.Y. 2008.I am sure my salesman wants to sell me a car. Whoever he is talking to (PCNA) they know they can sell more.
