    PSE use

For those of you with PSE, do you find that the sound difference is audible when driving with windows closed? If not, is it really worth it?? I know everyone says it is great but is it great for you or for others that you drive past?

    Re: PSE use

    great for everyone!

i didn't get it at first but after i heard it i did
    best option IMO

    Re: PSE use

that does not answer my question. do you need to have windows down or sunroof open to enjoy it?

    No, but it helps.

    Re: PSE use

    it should have!

I SAID FOR EVERYONE (you and others!)

    Re: PSE use

I can certainly hear it with the windows up. In fact, if I put my right foot down while using option 666 with the windows up, folks on the other end can tell I'm driving something really special -- even at relatively low speeds. Let's not even talk about the aural bliss I experience with the top down (I have a convertible) -- absolutely wonderful!

Only one drawback -- when my girlfriend calls she can always tell when I'm driving "vigorously" since PSE is modded, so I get to hear her whine about how I shouldn't drive so fast all the time. A little annoying (my girlfriend, not the PSE of course), but I luv her anyway . . . she helped me to finalize all my options, PSE included. Great car, great gal! I plan to keep 'em both.

I'd like to see some pics of your cab...may have seen you around. Are you in Atl?

I doubt the PSE option is this way but Porsche was thinking of the added pleasure of driving a cab when they made the stock exhaust note on cabs louder than the coupes. Yet another benefit of driving a cab...especially with PSE.

    Re: PSE use

I can hear the difference between PSE on and off with the windows up in my coupe. If you are undecided on whether to spend the money or not to get this option I add the vote to buy it!

    Re: PSE use

There is a BIG difference, which is very noticeable especially when you eliminate the cutoff. IMHO, a must with the PSE.

Yes even with windows closed the sound is considerably noticeable and louder...and NICE! Do it all the time and it's terrific. With windows down the wind noise in fact dissipates the noise somewhat.

    Re: PSE use

IMO it's one of the sexiest sounds I have ever heard. It's just beautiful.

And yes, I can hear it clearly with the windows and sunroof closed but obviously, if the windows and/or sunroof are open, it certainly helps.

Also, tunnels help big time even with the sunroof and windows closed.

For any enthusiast, this option is a no-brainer (provided your budget can stretch to it).

I've done the PSE vacuum hose disconnection mod so it's ON all the time with no cut-off between 30-50mph.

    Re: PSE use

I had a chance to listen to a C4S with PSE today, in a garage. It certainly sounds NASTY and a must have!!

    Thanks for all your thoughts.

    Re: PSE use

You will not regret getting PSE. It is the best option available AND the best value.

Takes the 911 to a new level whether your windows are open or closed.

Apart from the permanent cutoff modification, is there a chance to keep the on/off feature via the console switch but redeeming the speed-sensitive cutoff? If I'm not mistaken this was possible on the 996 series with some additional wiring...

GA997S -- Believe it or not, I have yet to take a single photo of the car -- except with my camera phone the night before delivery. I keep planning to, but I can't stop driving it long enough to wash and shoot it. Strangely, I think I have pics of YOUR car that I took while it was awaiting service in the dealership's parking lot (btw, very nice ride!). Rest easy, I took them for my personal use only -- in fact, I took pics of many local cars with color schemes I thought were cool so I could view them later from the comfort of home. Hmmm, does that make me sound like a "P-car stalker"? Funny, I don't recall doing that for any of the other cars I've purchased in the past. Anyway, it definitely beat going to the dealership to see P-cars every time I got a whim. Obviously, I am in Atl so maybe you've seen me around (5k mostly local miles so far).

BTW, you deserve BIG thanks from me since it was your car and color scheme that helped me to finally decide on mine. Gotta luv the black cab -- even when it's not so clean.

Hope to wash and shoot this weekend . . .

Yes, it is. By adding an extra switch. Jeannot, myself and others have it

Thanks for the info. Did you install it at the dealership?

I assume you overleap the cutoff mode in that case?

Yes, I installed it at the dealer..after some negotiation. I know some dealers do not want to do it.

I can't remember the technical details, but yes, I assume it is that. They pulled a new wire from the back to the front console so that when the switch is on it ' s like you pull the plug on the back ( it cuts off the electricity..)

If you need more info I might be able to find all the details again... but , I guess, you got the main idea.

    Re: PSE use

I have owned 7 911 Porsches over more than 20 years. To this day I drive with my window down on hot or freezing days to hear my car (997S no PSE) run. If I see other Porsches (911's), regardless of year, I roll down my window - even if I am in my 911. It's got to be done. The windows are just there to keep rain out. I do not think I would even know how to use the radio if I had to. My brother has a 997S identical to my except he has the X-51 which includes the PSE! I heard it for the first time over the weekend. I was awesome! Spectacular sound. Very nice to listen to. That having been said I will most likely skip the PSE mod on my car and get a set of Headers, 100 cell CATs and new mufflers w/chip. For about $4000 this should be as loud as PSE and give power similar to the X-51 (I know, no internal engine mods like the X-51 - but my car is #453 off the line). Maybe not as much power - but less exhaust weight should make up some difference as well. Also, it will always be ON. I think this is a great compromise for early 997S owners who can't fit X-51.
