All the info and videos up to now, shows that it will be strangely explosive, so I believe him 100%.

    Let's see...

RC is bemoaning the use of the turbo S engine as opposed to some major new tech we were expecting but the reality of a hotted up Turbo S engine which has a flat 750NM torque curve which is still at 707NM at 7000rpm points to a very explosive top end so his comments look very valid.

Smiley This is supposed to be a GT2 RS, not a Turbo S Plus or Turbo RS. Also, despite the "explosive power" and the 700 hp, the GT2 RS doesn't seem to be capable of outrunning the 720S, which costs much less money. You need also to keep in mind that the 720S is only the beginning, other (and more sporty/powerful) model variants will follow.

If Porsche is making such a big fuss about the GT2 RS and all that "benchmark" Turbo S (in the past), they need to deliver. This is all I'm asking.

    You are 100% right.

    ....I still want one....

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

I want one too but if I had to choose where I leave my 300k EUR, it wouldn't be the GT2 RS. angry Unless of course I would have plenty of 300k "chunks" at my disposal. indecision

Right now my list would be:

    1. Huracan Performante

    2. 488 GTB

    3. 720S

    4. GT2 RS

First three options are cheaper than GT2 RS in Germany.

Again, I'm not trying to make the GT2 RS look bad, it is a fantastic car but you need to look at it from an "only car" buyer's perspective. If the GT2 RS is one of many, it is surely a nice toy. If this is the only "toy" you are going to drive, think twice before getting one.

This is my problem only when I sit in it, driving it. It basically looks like a base 911 Carrera. Smiley

One of the many reasons I wasn't happy with my former 991.1 Turbo S: We also had a Boxster S and when driving the Turbo S, I kind of had a similar feeling like driving the Boxster. Smiley

For a 300k car, Porsche could have at least given the GT2 RS a different speedo cluster and some other goodies like additional gauges or whatever. The 400 kph speedometer is a nice touch but purely cosmetic.

I am sorry but as a hardcore Porsche fan, I just cannot "connect" to this car. Smiley I know that many others, incl. those who consider getting one (and not as an investment) have the same or similar issues.

I think at this price point, they should have offered a turbocharged version of new 4.0L GT3 motor with dry sump, fancy crankshaft with center oiling, etc.  This is a pretty pedestrian motor (quite similar to turbocharging the old 981.1 Boxster/Cayman/Carrera motor) for a $300k car...

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

Historically, the GT2 /GT2RS had always been ripping out the 4wd system from the Turbo S and crank up the boost to 11. This GT2RS certainly adhered to the same formula. What's the reason for asking something completely different?

The 997 GT2RS pioneered the carbon hood, but this time around the 991 version got that, plus a carbon roof and carbon fenders, NACA ducts for brake cooling AND water injection system. Content wise, it actually got more than the last time around.

If no one bitched about the pedestrian motor in the 997 GT2RS, why would they bitch about it on the 991 version?

For $300k, I'd think twice maybe even more knowing the whole mechanical part is derived from a $200k 911, souped up with a fish tank and an out of place rear spoiler with unnecessary stripes that you don't have the option to delete for WP  Smiley

This your opinion will be the next wrong one, as was regarding 0-300km/h for the 991.1 Turbo back in the time with my good friend Herbalizer... :)

Well, with all the previous GT2's the basis Turbo motor used for this exercise was already superior to the Boxster/Cayman/Carrera motor with the inclusion of dry sump, etc...

I guess the wet sump 9A1 may really be up to the task of race track use with high g's (Cayman Clubsport uses it with Slick tires), so maybe totally adequate.  It just seems on the surface like a little cost savings.  Seems a little strange that of all the GT cars ever made, only the cheapest one ever (GT4) and the most expensive one (991 GT2RS) have wet sump...

Good point but the 911 Turbo S was already a disappointment (for me and it seems I am one of the rare people who say that Smiley), so maybe I (and others) expected more? Somehow? Pretty pretty please? Smiley

This is how Porsche tries to convince customers that they get added value, when in reality they actually lag behind the competition in this domain. I mean, c'mon Porsche...Ferrari cranks up the power of the 488 to 670 hp and Porsche goes for 30 horses more with their 911 Turbo S? A joke.

If no one bitched about the pedestrian motor in the 997 GT2RS, why would they bitch about it on the 991 version?

I bitched all the time about it (911 Turbo S). Smiley

You would not enjoy the first two (given your interest in straight line acceleration) - they are just too slow compared to the 720s which is in a league of its own Smiley

Hello all, new to the forum! Just managed to secure a build slot for Q3 next year for the GT2 RS and thought I'd find other prospective owners.

This will be my first proper sports car (had M3/M4's etc) before but never a 2 seater so I'm pretty hyped :D

What colour combos are people going for? I'm thinking Yellow out/black in for mine.

You can do that with your dealer? Unheard of in the US. The allocation is personal and not transferable. Better check to be sure you're getting the allocation.Smiley

Congratulations and Welcome SmileySmiley.  You won't find many prospective GT2RS owners here SmileySmiley. Plenty who wanted one but did not get one. I'm in the Black exterior camp with this one too. Interior is all down to how brave you want to be. At the risk of stating the obvious, beware its quite a jump from M cars to a GT2RS though its no widow maker like the 996 version.
