From m3post.com, look at the flared fenders

According to sources swedish Auto Motor Sport have talked to, the rev limiter has been moved up to 9000 rpm.

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

    Thanks Tim!
Did you heard rumor(in fact I belive this info is pretty accurate) that new M3 will be released as manual only at first!!?
It seems that BMW decided to give up SMGIII after recent gearbox failures... Maybe we will see new direct shift gearbox in M3, but not in first production year.

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

    Thanks temm .

I think temm and I are trying so hard to see which one of us can do as little work as possible in the office and as much hard work as we can for rennteam .

that's why we love you guys !!!

The 997 is going to have some serious rivals !!!

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

Manual only is fine with me.

I just hope it looks a bit more distinguished once the camo is gone. It still looks too Bangle/Plain Jane

New direct shift gearbox???What about this?
New M3 will be show at geneva or at the IAA in september?

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

This is something like DSG, but with single clutch. It is in works an according to some sources(like AMS, Auto Zeitung, etc.) it will replace SMGIII. We will see...
BTW, I do not like those 18" wheels on test mule. Let's hope that optional 19" will look better.

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

Nice find, the changes makes the car better looking IMO, and if it grows on me like the other 3-series models it just might look great in a few months

And Temm, I can't help noticing how the cars you post have become more and more realistic economicly, starting with the R8 --> GT3 RS --> M3.. Remember to use the same trick with you better half and you'll soon be selling you Solberg playseat

    Best of luck

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

Slowly getting better.... Still not in love by a long way!!! Hopefully the final design when unclothed will be better!

    Good find though my man!

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

Porsche has lots of catchup to do!

No I hadn't heard that, interesting information. But I would be very surprised if BMW gave up one of their "flagship" technologies in the M cars (the SMG gearbox), but I guess we will find out in the not too distant future.

But hey, didn't you say that about the R8 as well?

You're right, I have started at the wrong end
Maybe I should start at the bottom and trade up like I do with watches

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

These pictures look a lot better, might turn out to be a nice car after all. If they make a touring version (and I believe they will), I might be interested...

    Interesting, thanks Kreso

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

I wonder if that swedish magazine rumor is true is 9000 RPM in a normal sized engine doable as far as longevity??? wouldnt the GT3 have done this for Porsche if so...?

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

I have already seen a few 335's on the road in London and must say they look alright in the flesh. The tail lights that I hated from seeing the pics also looked ok.

Hm...RichJ, you have placed your order already!? Do you have the order guide?
    Cheers

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

    thanxx Temm ... 9000rpm!

Question is, if DSG really is a substitute for real sequential gearboxes as SMG or F1. IMO DSG is a great alternative for automatic gearboxes, that's why Ferrari is planning to introduce such a gear box in the 612 Scaglietti and Porsche is said to replace tiptronic by PDK for example. But having a DSG INSTEAD of SMG/F1 is not the right way if you ask me.

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

I agree with you! DSG(or S-Tronic) is much closer in character to true autobox then to manual gearbox IMHO as well. BUT, problem is that F1, e-gear, SMGIII etc. are not reliable as their respective manufactures belived. Around 15% of all F1 gearboxes in F430 was replaced during first year or so. 10% of Gallardo's e-gear as well and better not to talk about M5/M6 SMGIII. I personally know two persons with broken SMGIII. People use LC much too often on this car and simply said stress on gearbox in this mode in very big. My Audi friend told me that if I plan to have my R8 for longer period of time(say more then 4 year) then his advice is manual! Also difference on track times(Tom Kristenssen driving) was extremly marginal between R-Tronic and manual.
BMW is trying to build truly reliable sporty paddle shifter gearbox and I welcome that very much.

I actually placed my order last year If I remember rightly, no order guide or information as of yet....

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

I believe Ferrari management has stated they still plan to retain F1 boxes in the true sport models, but would consider DSG type boxes in the GT cars (599, 612)

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

The new M3's looks are improving with each new set of spyshots. Still not as pretty as the E46 M3 (especially in CSL guise) but we can still hope for more improvements.

I'm more interested in the engine though. I think a lot of us will be willing to compromise a bit on the looks, but not on performance. If overall performance is only equal to that of the RS4, I'd be disappointed.

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

I'd be really suprised if BMW released the M3 with less power than the RS4... That would be a bad move...

BMW are not like porsche, they seem to have no problem chucking a ton of power into their cars, the M5 and M6 have 500hp for godsakes!!!

At the worst they will at least match the power of the RS4...

However I would expect the dynamics of the M3 to be better than the RS4...

Will be an interesting motor no doubt

Not sure about it. The new M3 is rumored to be aprox. 50-100 kg heavier than the old one, eating up almost the whole power advantage. Latest rumor: 0-100 in 4.8 seconds, 0-200 in 16.5 seconds. Pretty much the same as the Carrera S.

Re: The latest BMW M3 photos

Your guess(0-100km/h in 4.8s) is spot-on! Yes, it will be very good car, but will it be a true sports car?
Regarding price, around 70000Euro in Germany(base price)...
