    997 GT3 RS news (USA)...

Not sure if this information has been posted before, but here goes...

-US MSRP for the RS will be $123,200
-Will debut as an '07 model, some rumors suggested it will be an '08
-For my dealer, first production starts in May of 2007
    -White can be officially ordered
-We will get the single mass fly wheel, rumor mills suggested we won't
-We will NOT be getting an ROW stuff...plastic window, CGT seats, rollbar, etc.
-My dealer is officially receiving 4, allocation depends on your dealer's sales volume
-Should be able to order the car within the next week or two

I'll post if I receive any new information. Cheers!

Re: 997 GT3 RS news (USA)...

Thanks for the info. One of the big questions is will the US spec cars come "ready" to install a factory roll cage if we want to do it after delivery? The CGT seats would be an easy add after I assume.

Also, will the US spec get the carbon front hood?

    SUNROOF?

    Not on RS

Re: 997 GT3 RS news (USA)...

Are you sure about white being available?
The guys over at rennlist are saying it is NOT available.
Even though there are no order guides out for the US RS, the dealers are able to order online and White is not a colour option on their system.

    NO sunroof.

White...yes, official. This is from someone at PCNA, I can't name the source, but he physically told me it can be done. Wait a bit, you can't officially order the car anyways. The system might not be updated with final specs. I'm #1 at my dealer and have been in touch nearly every day. You can't order yet. (Unless there's something I don't know )

Yes, we'll be getting the CF bonnet.

    Cheers!

Re: 997 GT3 RS news (USA)...

the lack of sunroof is nice, but the lack of the other ammenities (CGT seats, RC, other weight reduction) for the RS makes the price a bit unrealistic...

    I don't think so!

All 997s have a light aluminum trunk cover (bonnet), so there is no incentive to install a carbon fiber trunk lid.
European 997 GT3 RS trunk lids are not made of carbon composite, as were those of the 996 GT3 RS.

Just another example of rennteam being ahead of the herd.

I have the aluminum bonnet (front trunk lid) on my 993 (from the 993RS) and a CF one on my 73 911 and the weight difference is huge. CF is much lighter than Alu (which is lighter still than steel)...

Grant, I've been reading your posts long enough to know that you think purely in terms of the absolute weight benefit.

Commercial companies would work on basis of "dollars per pound saved", so they may not always come to the same conclusion as you would re the viability of weight reduction measures.

PS: Just realized that I should have written "less incentive" instead of "no incentive" in order to be absolutely objective.

Re: 997 GT3 RS news (USA)...

once again a whole lot of the stuff that makes an rs an rs won't make it over here....

Re: 997 GT3 RS news (USA)...

wow porsche is smart; they give the no sunroof version flared fenders, but realistically know americans will pay $20K to ge rid of the hole! why oh why is there on on the GT3:(

Re: 997 GT3 RS news (USA)...

    Guys,

the RS is more expensive than the GT3 by the following amounts in these markets

    UK 18.5%
    Germany 19.6%
    France 19.6%
    US 16%
    Canada 16%

Re: 997 GT3 RS news (USA)...

    Colors Available for the US:

    A1 - Black
    B4 - Carrera White
    J5 - Green
    N2 - Orange
    X1 - Arctic Silver Metallic

Yeah, you can count on me to be very weight conscious about my cars - now I need to work on my own waistline

Thanks for the clarification Fritz. Didn't know. Heard about the CF bonnet from someone else. Everything else I posted should be accurate though...it's from a VP at PCNA. Hehehe...told you white was available.

Go over on to 6Speed. Seems like the CGT seats and rollbar can be ordered already. Then the only thing you're missing is the plastic rear window, but I heard those rattle a lot. <shrug> Blame the NHTSA/DOT for a lot of the things we're not getting for the RS. <sigh>

Re: 997 GT3 RS news (USA)...

I share Bostnmini's feelings. Slightly bogus but what can you do?

Re: 997 GT3 RS news (USA)...

The RS is still a bargain in the US vs ROW, true not as good a deal as the standard GT3, but at least there is an RS in the US this time. Anyway this first batch of allocations are sold out in the US, looks like not everyone will get one unless they make more than planned.

Re: 997 GT3 RS news (USA)...

New information...as of today, the RS can be ordered. So if you're #1 and haven't gotten the call yet, run to your dealers. Contrary to my original post, production starts January for the first allocation. Going to order tomorrow, will keep everyone posted on options, etc. Cheers!

Re: 997 GT3 RS news (USA)...

Ordered the car guys. Went home, checked over everything, need to make some modifications to the order. Have a ton of options. Will only post if you guys are curious. For those who need it, here's the GT3 RS order guide courtesy of 6Speed. 997 GT3 RS US Order Guide. Enjoy!

What I don't understand is the fact that we always assumed that the GT3/RS wouldn't get the sunroof delete options because of the crash testing. Yet now the RS doesn't have it... Did they crash test the RS? Highly unlikely...Did they get a special exemption? If so, why not for the base GT3?

    Lots of questions...very few answers

The number of RS's is below the limit to allow a by-pass of crash testing.
