I can't help myself but to me it is unnecessary to say the least.

I fully agree with you, I very much prefer the current version.

    We all complain

We all will buy the next one

guys are we really sure is not a "special edition"??

is too much naked to be at one year an half to be on sale..

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

I agree - it is way too uncamo'd to be an '09. I am betting on '08 with the tail lights touched up to match the new Cayenne. I don't know what they will do with the Targa though. Besides, Porsche has to do something to keep sales up for '08, until the Panamera comes in '09.

Not sure if I will do so, if the changes come like that.

Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to me these changes are not only unneccesary (applies mostly for the back), but they make the car uglier (applies for the new front).

Could it be some kind of a "Turbo-Look" option for the current 997?

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

And furthermore: Note that Porsche just started an agreement with XM for 2007. And notice the new antenna on some of the spy photos, on the coupe as well as the cab?

With new rear lights? Unlikely IMO.

Since the 997 is on the market since 07/2004, a facelift before 2008 would be a little bit sassy. But why are they driving around in one?

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

There would be only one reason for me to get the facelift 997: the jump in BHP.

Then I would add the powerkit and get close to 400bhp (I assume)

The aesthetic changes are so tiny they are meaningless IMHO.

    Well, right as well.

I really start to believe, that we see the facelift already in early 2008 and not MY 2009 as stated in the article.

Are a mere 15 horses more (as rumoured) that important?

Most probably you won't even feel a difference between old and new.
And to me the aesthetic changes are a step back, which makes the word "aesthetic" inappropriate.

in fact it seems strange..but that front is really ugly,a lot of people prefer the current one..
And the fact that is too ready to go,make me wonder..

the back instead looks good IMHO

    time will tell

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

I would be happy enough when PDK sees the light

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

15 HP... Why even bother. The 997 should be 350 for the base and 380 for the S, and that was last year. 15 HP in two years? No thank you.

    My 03 911 has 320 HP, the base 09 911 will have 335?

I am the first one to be against the HP war and find a 500hp M5 ridiculous, but the 911 are sports cars...

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

but 997S performance is more than "355hp"

i saw a top gear or 5th gear video..

with 3 cars 997s m6 and aston doing time attack on a certain route. 997s won by quite a big gap

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

I am mostly interested in the PDK and direct injection engine.

Wouldn't Porsche save the direct injection for 998 rather than the facelift?

I don't know. But it looks good anyway you look at it!

I agree that an extra 15bhp won't be felt. However, as my current C2S is too old to retrofit a powerkit, if I got a facelift version with powerkit included then I think I would indeed feel the difference.

To be honest though, I would never do this. The money lost in trade-in would just not be worth such a small change in the car.

Personally I would only trade my current car in for a new Turbo with:

  • 500bhp
  • PDK
  • PSE
  • Sports chrono pack without the 'wart' on the dashboard
  • A bonnet like the new GT3 and GT2
  • GT3/GT2 style wheels
  • Removal of the current Turbo's bulging front fog lights
  • Redesign of current Turbo's rear-end

Anything less wouldn't be worth the change. So I think I will have to put my name down for the 998 Turbo out around 2012 and keep my fingers crossed!!

Re: HOT: Pictures of 997 Facelift!!!!

Let's see if RC can get us in an official Porsche 998 suggestions work-group, as the above changes would make for quite a car!!

...the Turbo as it should have been.

Well, you surely will get all these options for you Turbo directly from Porsche in the near future.

    It's only a matter of...

    ... money.

Yes, the 997 is a true sports car and much more adept to track driving than the other cars tested. I, personally, would never buy either one over the 997S but, that doesn't mean that I don't think that it's ridiculous that a 4000 lb. sedan can at least run with it and likely whoop it in a drag race.
Maybe "whoop" is extreme, but you know what I mean. I've said it before, I'll say it again 355 measly horses for $90K+

What are you thinking about following argument : Mechanical double clutch system has been developed by Porsche years ago for the race cars. It was too expensive for road cars. The patent has been sold to VW group. Rumors says at PAG that the patent will end in 2008. If PAG does not want to pay royalties to VW for a patent they sold them, they have to wait to 2009 to sell the PDK...

If it is night-vision then surely they will have to redesign the entire dashboard. Looking down at where the current PCM is located would cause a lot more accidents than it would prevent! It's not the best positioning as it is right now for map-reading or selecting radio stations etc.

Can you really see a Porsche 911 having a completely digital display in the near future?!
