A few interesting comments on potential future R8 variants to follow the Audi R8 V10 Plus Spyder...

Joost:That's some lovely pictures Christian!
What is your experience with driving with shoes like these? I sometimes wear protective "steel noses" shoes when I have to visit the production facilities of our company, and I always make sure to have "normal" shoes with me as well, as I hate the feeling of driving with these big lumps. Doesn't it give you any problems?
Shoes aren't a problem but I need to lace them pretty tight... Got used to them (since I broke some of the foot bones during an unfortunate Krav Maga kick, I have pain wearing other shoes or walking barefoot).

I was really considering the Plus Spyder but this rear wing looks hideous...
It ruins the whole rear...

Porker:It looks much better than the higher wing to my eyes. I like it!
A retractable wing a la 911 Turbo may have been the classier soution but I actually drove in a V10 Plus mule and it had the rear wing of the Coupe. It looked really good. Need to see that wing lip live to make a final judgement but while I'm not a fan of wings, the Coupe's wing really grew on me.
The R8 needs two major improvements: Tires and...chassis. This morning we had some driving fun around lake Garda and when tire temp passes 60 deg C, the tires are done. Also I forgot to reactivate ESP in Performance mode Dry and learned almost the hard way that even at speeds around 80-100 kph, the base setup of the R8 could need some overhaul. Apparently I scared the sh.t out of the other drivers when I slipped along a rock face at a couple of centimeters distance. Mid engined cars, especially the R8, don't really love spontaneous load alterations (not sure this is the right English word for it...). There might be a video of this...
Hoping for a new tire generation with the coming new model year...

RC:Looks like a ducktail, not a fan...
Looks more related to aerodynamics as the wing found on the plus coupé wouldn't be as effective in the vortices shed off the windscreen. Recall that this echoes an earlier comment on the effectiveness of the ALA wing on the Lamborghini Huracan Peformante that one made. However, this device will cause the turbulent airflow over the cabin to separate at the vehicle's tail, thus reducing drag and lowering lift. Different aerodynamic devices for differing flow conditions.

Unfortunately it was quite close to this...only that I hit a wall in the end.

Great, my F12 buddy got himself a used California and his wife wanted a cabriolet here in Italy, so... This thing isn't even close to the R8 performance-wise.
Also learned that the second best sound next to the R8 is the V12 sound of an Aston Martin V12 Vantage S.

You reckon a V12 Vantage comes second to the R8? I'm not sure about that, sure the v10 sounds delicious, but V12...

Yes...just my personal opinion. Let me put it like this: I wouldn't mind having one (V12 Vantage S).
Btw: The Aventador SV still comes first in my book.

These parts are basically all you need to add around 200(!) hp to the R8 V10 Plus but I wonder how reliable such kits are... (no, don't worry...I would never ruin my fantastic n/a engine with such a kit).

Integra:i just read that the R8 e-tron is coming after all?
Good question...actually Audi stopped production (it was officially...unofficially available for 6 months or so) and also stopped development a couple of months ago.
However, there seems to be a huge disagreement in the Audi leadership and the Audi labor union reps about the future of Audi and new technology, so right now, it seems they are discussing the "electrification" of many Audi models, incl. the R8.

BjoernB:48V will come in every car soon - but that means only mild electrification that comes soon - makes total sense to electrify all auxiliaries freeing the engine from belts etc.
Still...weight will go up or at least stay the same in many cars, even with new lightweight materials.
I heard 200 kg less for the new Cayenne generation but lately, I heard that it is actually only slightly over 100 kg less (Turbo). Not sure if I can trust these numbers but increased safety and impact (accident) regulations make it hard for car manufacturers to lower weight.

A few photos (sorry about the quality but there is a reason for that...) from a nice drive... (the R8 felt a bit underappreciated but the owners of the other cars at least admitted that it sounds very good ).
Oh I would have loved to take this one home...

Porker:That CGT!
Yep...sounds better than the 918. A bit disappointed with the 991.2 GT3 sound, sounds pretty bad below 3000-4000 rpm but pretty good at very high revs. Panamera Turbo also sounding very disappointing, by far worse than the new E63 S AMG for example.
Still...I would love the 918...not the Weissach version though, which is a bit overstyled in my opinion and lacks a lift.

throt:That R8 is the best there, buddy... ..
Thanks but seriously, they were only impressed by the sound (which still matters but... ).
Me too, the 918 I would lovvvvvvee to own.. ..
Yep, one of my favorites but I will never be able to afford one. Maybe better this way...I can't see myself getting out of the 918 at age 70.

The latest "Auto Bild" comparison between Turbo S, Nissan GT-R and Audi R8 V10 Plus. (Just in German)
Don't understand the conclusion from the author: due to his claim the R8 is more a car for poser than a serious sportscar .
But this isn't my experience in the reality. Maybe he got a R8 in poor condition
