    Re: 911 GT2 launch date ?

You cant compare 599 with a GT2 !! COME ON these are two Totaly different cars... One is hardcore (GT2) and the 599 is a GT car.. You miss the point in my opinion...
It is no only which is faster that matters. Z06 i faster than 997tt what does this mean that Z06 is a better car!?
I believe that you have to compare the F430 stradale with the new GT2..

Something more.. I talked today with my dealer and gave me hope that the new GT2 may be ready for delivery even in March.. I dont know why..
He also told me that the car will have TC and that it will be arround 520-530hp. Unfortunately he told me that he is sure that the car will be MANUAL only.

TC isn't the same as PSM. On another note, how is a car that is slower to 300 km/h than the 997TT the faster car?

Heck, even 3100 lbs (which IMO is perfectly achievable) would be good for 520 bhp. Faster than the Z06 in all speed ranges, I'd say that would be enough for most people(although I have my reservations about you ).

    I suspect you are correct.

Don't worry. I know exactly which cars I am comparing there

P.S.: I would even argue that the 599GTB is closer to the 997GT2 than to the 997TT

but you are only signing a contract for purchase.
not my business but isn't est. delivery a ways out?
wouldnt there still be a possibility of a gt2 pk b/f the 599 delivery?
    jeff

    Hi Jeff,

in fact, based on my sources, I do not expect first deliveries of PK before calendar year 2008. Also, the GT2 will (most likely) come without PSM (i.e. no car for me then).

On that basis and on the basis of my test drive experience with the 599GTB I have concluded that the 599GTB is the best car for me at this point of time

I think it's safe to say that the GT2 won't be any faster than the 599 up to 200 km/h and very likely slower above that. If you can afford the 599, why wait? You've made the right choice.

Absolutely! The lack of PSM alone would make the GT2 a no-go for me

I would have loved a GT2 with 540hp and PSM. That would have been a highly attractive package. I think, I would have even preferred it to the 599GTB. However, all this is wishful thinking. There will be no GT2 with 540hp and PSM

I'd say the PSM is still somewhere in the air, while the 540 bhp figure definitely isn't happening. Maybe for the Mk2, once the 430 successor comes out. Anyway, the 599 is a superb machine and I think you'll be very happy with it .

Unfortunately, all signals I have received from Porsche (dealerships, Zuffenhausen, Weissach) indicate that there will be no PSM available for the GT2

In that case, the 599 is a no-brainer. Nobody in their right mind would be stupid enough to risk being splattered on the guardrail because of an overcorrection when some braindead tourist decided to turn off the highway at the town of Ausfahrt, at high speed, and ask for directions . Not installing stability control in the car would be a huge mistake.

I think I agree with you. It's just insane to have a road car with that much power and not have some type of PSM these days. Who wants to lose their life on a rainy day just to be able to say my car deosn't have all those pesky eletronics in it. Not me. I can turn them off on the track if I want to. My buddies GT2 is a thrill ride for sure but I wouldn't want to drive it on a rainy day on some of these highways. His Viper's just rediculous in the wet. Not that myt Z06 is a dream to drive in the wet or anything but it can save me if need be.

Personally I think I would go with the 599. The drool factor on it is so high. It's wicked fast and has an Enzo engine. That counts for something.

I think it's the best car out in that price range period. Congrats. Stunning machine. Do you mind me asking if they have to sell at MSRP where you are? Here in the states they are raping people in the aftermarket.

Yes, the contract is at MSRP. Unfortunately, I will have to wait another 15 months

Will a 997 GT2 without PSM be faster than a Blue Devil with AHS?

    Re: 911 GT2 launch date ?

I presume this implies that PSM didn't work out on the RWD setup and that PAG marketing is targeting the car to the small buyer pool for this car. As for HP figures, the car would be attractive even to me if the low-500 peak HP spec. would be in a vehicle weighing less than 3,000 lb., which could be achieved with reduction of insulation and use of lighter materials, the former would take away its "daily driveability" and the latter would add expense, but its target market is small to begin with anyway....

It seems to me, that Porsche could easily offer PSM, but that isn't (in my mind) consistent with the mission of the GT2. The GT2 is a turbo charged version of the GT3, and the GT3 doesn't have PSM either.

    Re: 911 GT2 launch date ?

Porsche will play the same old game - minimum input (technology and cost) - maximum ouput (margins)

So no PSM on the GT2, no PDK til God knows when etc etc. but as long as there is so much wealth in the world willing to spend money on their still good, but not cutting edge products, it does not really matter to them...

They will only start to invest when sales will get into serious trouble. So if one looks for cutting edge/innovative technology or bang for the buck one has to look at the competitors who still try to (re)establish themselves (ie lamborghini, audi, corvette, bugatti, zonda).
Chapeau to Ferrari who are the only ones who do make cutting edge cars although they very probably could come away with some mediocre products thanks to their cachet.
