    Panamera News

Here's an interesting news report on the Panamera from CAR Online (click HERE for link to web page)

    A sample from the article:

    Quote:
Porsche is going it alone on the Panamera, despite some whispers that Toyota was approached for a collaboration - and Volkswagen. Porsche owns a big chunk of VW stock, and Zuffenhausen boss Wendelin Wiedeking wields much infleunce with the VW board.

There was a plan to twin VW's proposed C1 luxury hatchback and the Panamera, on a platform with a rear transaxle, a front-to-mid engine installation and a lightweight body architecture. But VW cancelled the C1, so the R&D costs can't be shared.

Porsche's engineers would have preferred to stick with the transaxle layout. But this standalone solution would have cost more cash, and it's virtually impossible to add four-wheel drive. By mating the gearbox directly to the engine, four-wheel drive remains an option which insiders expect to materialise in the second half of the Panamera's life cycle.

Has it occurred to you that it might be intentional? They're probably reading this board, laughing at us, and sticking some additional ugly bulges on there just to get a response!

    Interesting article ... thanks GM

I guess none of us has a serious clue on what the Panamera will look like.

I therefore think that all the comments on the car look doesn't bring anything to the table and are childish ....

Hahaha! I've thought about that in the exact same way!
Never know - maybe our own Mike S secretly works for Porsche, and tries to cover up any suspicion by drawing us away with a new sweet ride.

Well, a V8TT or V10NA AWD version would be incentive for me to trade my tuned Audi S4.

    Re: Panamera News

Porsche has a LOT of work in front of them. The design MUST be incredibly sleek and contemporary to beat the CLS for looks but also the new LS sedan from Lexus.

The LS is an attractive car with great attributes including a 380 hp V8 all for about half what porsche might be charging. The news above about dropping the transaxle layout is not good.

The mule we keep seeing cant even share the general shape with the panamera because it is simply too big. One shot showed the driver standing next to it and it was a foot too high.

The panamera must be lower, lighter, and more slippery from a design point of view than this LS, along with the ability to handle like a porsche and power to spank the v10 beemers.

    and this;

    Re: New Panamera

Please, don't get me wrong. Earlier I said that "this thing" looks ugly... as almost every mule car.

Btw have a look at this nice detail

    Re: New Panamera

All the renditions I've seen so far leads me to think that this is going to be one BIG car.

    Re: New Panamera

Just tell your mathematics instructor that you were practicing your metric conversions:

    1 pound-foot = 1.355817952 Newton-meters,
    1 mile/square-second = 164.1074169 G's.
