    It came! 1st impressions

Got a call from my salesman today. Wagoneers pulled an all-nighter and hauled my Guards 997tt from Brunswick to Houston. 5 miles on the odo. I was able to get in about 7 miles of driving and then returned the car to allow them to install the clear-bra on the front end.

    1st impressions:

Visual- Guards is incredible. The car really has some pop in the red. The lines are clearly visible and the wheels contrast well. Wife still wants the lower rockers shot in body color, I just want to lower it 20-30mm. I was expecting to be underwhelmed since it looks like any other 997 but that's just not so.

Interior - fit and finish is top notch. The leather door finishers and rear console really tie the dash into the rest of the car. The lightly contrasting stitching is a very nice touch without being ostentatious.

Ride - standard ride is surprisingly smooth for a short wheelbased sports car. Steering has a great amount of feedback considering it is 4wd. Clutch and shifting effort is smooth and precise. Switching over to PASM sport tightens up the ride dramatically, almost to the point of track spring rates, but without being too harsh. The car simply feels velcro'd to the asphalt. This is a 500 hp supercar with a manual that your grandma could consistently launch into the 11's.

Regarding the lag - there is not much at all. The boost rolls on very smooth and quickly - above 3k rpm there is no lag whatsoever when transitioning from part to full throttle. There is no chance of the car dynamics being unsettled waiting for boost to build out of corners - I doubt anyone will have to change their driving lines on the track to anticipate for lag. On full boost, it just feels like a missile. The speed it builds is wickedly deceptive, but it accelerates in a different league than my E55. 200kph feels like 100kph. I was puzzled as to why cars around me appeared to be going backwards..

At the end of my spin, I was indeed giggling like a little girl. This car can be a daily driver, a kid hauler, a track car, a boulevard cruiser, a source of solitude, a source of excitement. It is the most tractable supercar ever.

    Re: It came! 1st impressions

Congrats on the new car and thanks for the write up!

    Re: It came! 1st impressions

congrats...couldn't agree more...looking forward to some pics as the adventure begins.

    Re: It came! 1st impressions

Congrats. Nice write up, I feel the same. The car just feels so tight and tied to the road. Did you get the short shifter? My 993C2 which has H&R springs and is lowered seems like a mini-van compared to the 997TT.

    Mike

    Re: It came! 1st impressions

Mine was built after Porsche said "no more short shifters". The throws are short enough as it is that I may not even install the B&M kit I bought.

    Re: It came! 1st impressions

Eclou, congratulations!!!! Your enthusiasm is obvious. Enjoy her in good health....and btw, it looks like you are well on your way to the funny farm!!

("The technical considerations go out the window if the car can make me giggle like a raving lunatic. I am hoping it is so invigorating that it will lead to my committment into an asylum")

    Re: It came! 1st impressions

Congrats - now the pain of breaking in begins

    Re: It came! 1st impressions

Very sensible , I agree 100% , no need for the SS on the turbo. It's plenty short.
Congrat's on the car. I feel a little jealous
I still have to wait a looooooong time.
    (April build)

    Re: It came! 1st impressions

    April build!?
Thats very, very long to wait.

oooops, i mean, dont worry, its just around the corner.

Thats why I almost always buy 2nd hand.

Considering I ordered the car in August it is indeed a long wait. But on the positive , I am leaving for Florida in a few days so no need for the car until spring when we get back.

    Nice dog & car Congratulations

    Re: It came! 1st impressions

    Congrats,

Love the car and the garage floor. Is it racedeck? I am looking into the same. Would you do anything different with the floor/colors? Can we get more interior pics of your TT?
Guards red and Cobalt are my two top choices.

This is the main reason why I went for the 997 Turbo, the do-it-all super sportscar.
Congratulations and enjoy your new baby.

    Re: It came! 1st impressions

Thanks for all the comments. I just returned from a 500 mile roundtrip weekender and have to add some additional comments:

1)the adaptive sport seats are impeccable. Snug as a racing bucket but so comfortable and supportive that long stretches of driving lead to no trace of back fatigue.

2)the car has enough oomph to almost never require downshifting

3)speed is so deceptive and without drama that triple digits feel like 35mph.

4)in regular suspension mode the car is all be free of bumpsteer

5)20.xx mpg when cruising over 100mph!

6)needs an additional 4-6 gal of fuel capacity or so

    Re: It came! 1st impressions

    Congrats! Looks fab! Enjoy!

Yes the tiles are RaceDeck. Very easy to install and to change when you get bored. I love them. The only downside is they do slightly deform under the weight of a floorjack lifting a car, so you have to be cautious as used a few jack stands in addition (should do this anyway). I found a place out of Dallas (www.zainomobiledetail) that sold them for $2.99 ea drop shipped to your house. LAst I checked though the website is dead. I bought a cheap scroll/band saw for $100 to cut pieces for corners and edge trim
