    Carlos from Spain:

Like Gnil said though, the manual part would have to be a real pedal and stick or there is no point, the whole manual process needs to remain analog not an on/off assisted clutch and stick that is just an electrical switch selector. Anyway this will never happen.

It would be possible to emulate a "classic" clutch with such a system but I'm not sure people would want that.

Yes, personally I wouldn't want that and I would think that other manual fans would agree, its has to be a real manual not a simulated one.

Hence, the reason there is no such system. Considering the fact that most professional racing series are not using classic clutch systems anymore, clutches will be extinct soon. I am really surprised AP has bowed to put manual into the GT3 but I guess pressure from customers (and the marketing department) was too big. Smiley

Manual is not about racing or track times, is about the experience in real world leisure sport driving, that cannot be matched by any auto-trans no matter how fast, efficient or confortable it is, that is why they are still alive today and why Porsche was forced to bring t back on the GT3 since the GT3 is a drivers car that people buy not solely because of its performance, but how it drives.

I know but I prefer shifting manually without a clutch. It helps keeping the focus on the driving.

Unfortunately, the 911 Carrera PDK is not as much fun to shift as the PDK-S in the GT3. Not sure if Porsche made this differentiation on purpose but whenever I switch from the R8 to the 911 GTS, I switch from shifting manually to shifting automatically. The 911 Carrera PDK is just not as fast and fun to shift with and the delay is sometimes annoying. Smiley

Had another outing today, but unlike the usual ones, this time it was of mixed sportscars of all sorts, so was kind of interesting.

Turns out the guy with the GT4 is someone I haven't seen since high school and got to see each other again today. Beautiful color for the GT4 Smiley

Met some new people I didn't know, but there was more eating and drinking that driving though ... started at 11:30am gathering and having something to drink in a quaint place along Saint James Way with lots of pilgrims going by doing the pilgrimage, then at 1:00pm stopped again to have some appetizers and drinks, final stop at the restaurant for lunch at around 3:00pm...  by the time it was 6:00 in the evening we were still having dessert and coffee heart

Re: 991 Carrera GTS - Extensive RoadTest Review

Had another P-car outing, gathered at the Porsche dealership, a drove all morning with a pit stop midway for some drinks and appetizers and ending at the marina of a coastal town for a lunch from 3-7pm. Total 46 cars.

The route was very winding roads of mostly second gear at high revs and some 3rd gear... absolutely wonderful with the GTS atmospheric high reving and sound! We separated into groups depending of what pace you wanted to do as there is no passing allowed at all between us, the front group was a group of 5-6 cars and was made up of a GT4 which was in front on me and sounded great, especially the downshifts, but less loud than I would of thought it would sound from behind, a 993 converted into RS in front of the GT4 sounded less, and in front of that the first car a 991.2 S with PSE that did not sound at all.

While I don't like the PZeros N1 still too much in rain (though much better than the N0), I have to admit they are very good in the dry when warm for street use. Registered up to a 1.12G which is good for mountain road asfalt grip and pace.

indecision I'm with you Gnil, more than one hour at the table and I start to get restless, but this is typical here, loooooong big lunch... was about 4hrs long! heart Got up at 7pm though the good part here is that sun doesn't go down until past 10pm so after 7pm is the best part of the afternoon here since its not as hot outside, but still...

Good food, good conversation, good people... so why not? Summer nights are long anyway, no? Stays light out until like 10 pm here. It's 7pm right now and it's sunny and 34C.

Re: 991 Carrera GTS - Extensive RoadTest Review

there was plenty of food and conversation for sure... at 10pm we were having a second breakfast... at 1pm we were having appetizers and drinks in another place, and by 3pm we started lunch at yet another indecision... plenty of time to catch up with some people you don't see often though.

Re: 991 Carrera GTS - Extensive RoadTest Review

Hi guys, thought I'd share just a few pics of yesterday's drive. Just a few to show different parts of the world from our members and a couple while driving when things slowed down and could snap a quick shot.

The area is northern Portugal which has great mountain roads with no traffic. Fortunately we had no rain though it was cloudy. Was great to see many of the guys and share a day doing what we love.

We were about 30 cars. Started with breakfast at a hotel and briefing with routebook so groups could follow their own pace and no one would get lost

    0_20180415_104551.jpg

Started off from next to the Spanish border for the first half of the route which was 100km

    0_20180414_104329.jpg

    When up into the mountains

    0_20180414_115100.jpg

    Those horns... easy now.... indecision

    0_20180414_115724.jpg

This was not my pic, I was in the group further ahead, but you can see a group together in one shot as they slowed down for the cows too

    WhatsApp Image 2018-04-15 at 02.31.18.jpg

These roads were used back in the day for Portugues national  rallye

    0_20180414_121017.jpg

    0_20180414_120909.jpg

    Nice scenery too

    0_20180414_121142.jpg

Stopped at a dam to regroup

    0_20180414_123219.jpg

    0_20180414_122340.jpg

And eventually finished the first half of the route through the mountain roads and stopped at a quaint hotel down by the river for a some appetizers and a drink

    0_20180414_132133.jpg

    0_20180414_133551.jpg

Then we headed off back to Spain to a restaurant were we had a "spanish" lunch, we started lunch at 4:00pm and finished at 6:00 SmileySmiley

Hi Nick, yes most of us know each other from both previous outings (we've done these for many years) and/or from personal life, that makes it twice as fun and also the sharing of lunch etc as we meet up and talk and joke, but there are always some new people we welcome in too.

The event is planned in advance yes, since the places we stop for breakfast, brunch and lunch have to be reserved, the route has to be planned picking the best combination of good roads, the route plan has to be printed so people don't get lost as we get separated in route, sometimes local authorities have to be notified if we start off in a town and we are too many cars as the police may have to control traffic for when we take off, or we need to park some where and need it closed temporarily, etc.

Some people bring their wives or significant other, or even their kids, and in the route they just stay in the back and drive at their leisure, since the wives usually get dizzy if they go in the front pack, because its a lot of curves, and those in front go for a more "spirited" approach , so each one drives how ever they want, no pressure, we have stops along the way and we always regroup. I myself don't bring my wife, she rather do other plans, and I bring a friend as a co-pilot as I like to be on the front pack to enjoy a spirited drive. And because its mostly low gear curvy roads with little straights, all types of Porsche models can hang with each other, since in the straights or open road, we hang back and go slow as its still public roads and no one is allowed to drive reckless.

These drives become interesting once you participate. The better you know the people, the more fun. Not a fan of doing stuff like that with complete strangers (this can get very odd when you stop for lunch/etc. and you realize that you don't have anything in common with these people Smiley).

My other problem is generally i’m antisocial. indecision

Me too, believe it or not but I have a small but fine circle of people and most of them are much more social than me and I get invited to many different events very often but I usually decline joining (which already p.ss.d off some people but... Smiley) because of the family (I am a family guy, I prefer to spend time with wife and kids instead of car nuts, can't help it). So in the end, we do some driving on weekends, a couple of people (3-6 cars), nothing fancy, only for fun. Sometimes we are in bigger groups but this happens only when a friend gets invited and I join him with my own car. Not sure if these guys would invite me on their own, they are completely out of my league (financially) and two of them are racing pros, so driving isn't too easy either to keep up, especially since everyone has semi-slicks and I have street tires (this will change though).

Before I bore you further: I think I am antisocial as well but maybe I'm just a family guy who tremendously enjoys spending time with his family. Smiley

    Smiley

I understand, it all depends on by who/how is organised, I've been invited to others and did not like them, some were too focused on all chatting in front of the cars and little driving Smiley, and in others drivers where being stupid and embarrassing doing burn offs, or loud bursts of acceleration in town limits and such.

When I rode sportbikes I would never go on such meets, there was always the idiot/s with something to prove Smiley putting everybody at risk. So I can see the hesitation sometimes with these, you just got to find the right organizers/group, I'm sure you would enjoy one of ours with us Smiley

These are focused on having fun on spirited drives on mountain roads but safely, no flashiness, no recklessness, and driving normally when within town limits. There is for example no overtaking in between us. Generally the people in these have had several Porsches along the years and other sportscars, they are experienced and level headed. And since they are good mature people and petrol heads it's actually also fun to talk and have lunch and spend the day with even if you are... antisocial Smiley trust me, I know where you are coming from, I've been called worse SmileySmiley
